  • Comments: I don't like how they start the slower age groups first. All of the passing on the bike was difficult and even dangerous. Other than that it's a nice course and a very nice area (I'd never been around there). Pretty well run, pretty good food & all that. I do wish that we had been able to swim. Water wasn't as choppy as at Gulf Coast, but someone died there and I'm not going to question the decision.

  • Comments: Only real issues were parking in the morning (which made a lot of people scramble to get to their swim wave in time) and a few of the rough roads. Overall a great race, wonderful volunteers, and a good experience for my first race. The real successes were finishing and raising $4000 toward digging a clean water well in Africa through Team World Vision (which is why I did this in the first place). I'm looking forward to doing a few shorter triathlons during training next year, and then really racing the race at Steelhead.

  • Comments: I'm happy with the time that I produced since I wasn't real sure where I was going to stand after missing a *few* training opportunities due to my upcoming wedding. The best part about the race was that I was able to overcome and obstacle in all 3 events and still finish happy and healthy! :) This is my second year doing Steelhead and I will probably try to keep it on my schedule as long as I can. The course is absolutely beautiful, the race organization keeps everything running smoothly with everything on time and lots of other perks (pre and post race food) and the volunteers were some of the best around.

  • Comments: The race was great! They did an awesome job with all the people on course. The only thing that I didn't like was that the sponges were in barrels in the middle of the road. It's really hard to grab a sponge when you're running. The bike handoffs were great, the shirt is AWESOME and the pizza was good after the race.

  • Comments: I really enjoyed this race, with exception of the run which was my issue not the race's. I know that some people felt that it was over crowded or had other issues, but I thrived on the size of the field and liked having all of the athletes around throughout the course. I felt that the race was very well organized, especially given its size. The bike and run courses were well manned. The bike course did have a few rough areas of pavement, but overall wasn't any worse than what I train on, so no issues there.

  • Comments: First off the volenteers were awsome!! Everyone I ran into was as helpful as they could be! The event was great but the location was bad. Too much sand. You could not sit anywhere without looking like a powdered doughnut!

  • Comments: Overall this race is a "B." It was awesome to take part in such a big race. The swim and bike course were great. The volunteers did a great job. Nice technical T-shirt and medal for swag. Run course was kind of blah. Transition area was kind of a mess. My bike and shoes are filthy. Still, this was a great race and a great way to spend a Saturday. I had an fantastic time.

  • Comments: Parking situation was a joke. Transition area is horrible - sandy, grassy and messy. Loooong run from swim end to transition over sandy terrain. Run finish sucked - running on carpets on top of sand - way too uneven. Surprised there weren't a ton of sprained ankles...

  • Comments: The event was great and well run. The volunteers were freaking awesome! The cops were awesome too and I heard several motivating comments from them which is rare. I have more positives than I can list about this race. The few negatives basically had to deal with overcrowding. There was a huge traffic jam trying to get to the parking area which was a pain. It's stressful enough preparing for theses races, but it's tenfold when running late. Also the bike course was incredibly crowded the entire way. It really made the 7 meter drafting rule virtually impossible to abide by. Other than that, I would definitely come back to Benton Harbor and race another day.

  • Comments: What an awesome time and event... The volunteers and crows were so enrgizing and great - I tried to thank as many as I could. My wife and 3 girls made t-shirts, hats, and signs with my picture and it was awesome to see them cheer me on. I would love to be back and do this again next year!

  • Comments: I had a great time at this race. There were a lot of people racing, but I think it went as smoothly as it could have. The course was relatively easy, but still had those few hills in case you got bored. The volunteers were excellent and everything seemed well organized.

  • Comments: This was a good race, the course was nice, not too hard, and it was organized well. There was a lot of people, but it was actually fairly nice to be surrounded by people all the time. I did push harder than I planned on the bike, but I think it ended up helping my overall time. I was about 10-15 min ahead of schedule on the bike, but about 5-10 min behind where I wanted on the run. So overall, pushing on the bike gained me about 5 or so minutes Id say. Id do the race again. Or double in LP I guess.. hah

  • Comments: A beautiful swim off a clean sandy beach. Crowded bike course and a very hot run course. Nicely organized except for the AM traffic. A race worth doing. I met my goal of going under 6 hrs for the first time. I wish the run had been better--this is a lot slower than my open HM time, but in the heat I had to hold back. So I'm satisfied.

  • Comments: overall, I thought the race was very well done. Lots of support on bike/run course. Lots of people scattered to cheer athlete on. Would have liked a smoother road on bike. I would recommend this race to any doing a half-ironman. Especially, a 1st like myself due to the tremendous support.

  • Comments: What a great race. Soooo well organized. The only problem I had was the food and that's just me being finicky. It was a beautiful course and definately plan to do this next year. The volunteers rocked. They were soooo incredibly nice and supportive. It was also a picture perfect day so for my first race, I couldn't have hoped for anything better.

  • Comments: I'm so happy I did Steelhead. It is an awesome race. Really well organized and a nice course. The roads were a little rough for me, but the girl I was talking to explained that it these were about the best that you could hope for up in the North. I thought that swimming in Lake Michigan was awesome and that the bike course was beautiful. The race was definitely not an easy one, but it was fun to challenge myself. I will definitely put Steelhead on my list of races to do in the future.

  • Comments: This is a great race. There were some hiccups particularly for relay teams--no one on the relay team had access to the post race food until the runner finished. For me, it wasn't a huge deal, but I can't imagine being the cyclist! I also had no access to post race drinks (needed your race number for that too). I think they could have better planned that specifically to relay teams. Other than that, the post race food was quite significant, and they also were running a post-post-race party that we didn't stay for. The beach was LOVELY, and I think this is a great race to bring the family too. They can easily be occupied by the beach while you race!
