  • Comments: This was a nice race, at a good location, with good organization, but the swimming ramp situation held it back. Pirahna has enough experience to know better. Not sure what happened here. If doing this next year, ask about the ramp situation prior to committing. Murky water has never bothered me in my very limited race career (1 yr), but I know it bothers some folks. Also the lack of a goody bag should be noted. Being told that they ran out, or whatever the lady said to me was a poor excuse. I liked the red shirt as a change of pace from the 400 white running race shirts I have.

  • Comments: When I did this race in 2006 there was over 350 in the HIM alone. I think there was 360 combined for both races. I saw there was a huge drop off last year and a slight one for this year. I know the lake was an issue but it was not as bad as 06. I was also disappointed with finisher's dogtag. 2006- Big medal. This was my 2nd HIM and I was very happy with my time. I thought the bike was going to be an issue but it went a lot better than expected. I feel confident that after a summer full of training, I can complete IM Louisville.

  • Comments: OK First off I have done this race each of the four years it has been in existence and have hit my HIM PR here each year. The volunteers and spectators were great and did a good job. The field always seems really strong 51 people under 5 hours. So those are the positives. On the flip side, I was totally unimpressed by Pirahna's effort. The mess with the start was a poorly thought out plan, regestration closed a day earlier than what was posted on-line (to their credit, Neil did re-open on-line regetration when I sent him an e-mail, and me an about 8 other people signed up), there were significant intersections on the 2nd leg without any traffic control (had a close call there the last two years), no timing mats at the turnarounds, no goody bag, a NJD dogtag for a finisher's medal, nothing but Coke to drink after, and not getting the results on line until the next day. This race has backslid significantly. For a race with 47 sponsors listed on the shirt and a $145 entrance fee,

  • Comments: The event was fairly well organized. I wasn't happy with the swim enter and exit. And there were portions of the bike that had some issues with cars. All in all though, it wasn't too bad. Plus, I was very happy to see hoagies for post race food instead of just bagels or something crappy.

  • Comments: Good race for a first HIM, because it's flat and "easy"...Well organized, though the post race activities were a tad dull. Yay, I did my first HIM ever!! P.S. Just as a note--the temps were at around 55F in the morning when I got there, overcast, dreary and COLD. By the first half hour of the bike, sun broke through. And I mean BROKE THROUGH. Super sunny, no clouds, and like 73F the rest of the bike, I think it bumped up much higher by the end of the run. Weather report couldn't have been more wrong. Which only sucked because I didn't have my sunblock in my transition bag (left it in the car when I saw the weather report and the chilly grey skies...d'oh!!) and now I've got a nice sunburn going--my race number is actually tattoed onto my skin. LOL.
