  • Comments: This was a nearly perfect end to three straight races at IMWI. The icing on the cake was seeing my training buddy Chris have a stellar day with a 10:15, cutting about 50 min off his PR!! The fun course, volunteers, and spectator support along with proximity to my family make IMWI my favorite race, by far. Unfortunately, I'll be watching it from afar next year. Going to miss it.

  • Comments: I am determined to get my time into the 14-hr range. Would have been close this year, so I know I can take another half hour off next year to succeed. Just gotta put more time into it, but had an especially stressful summer. Fortunately no broken bones or other health issues for this race!

  • Comments: I have kids, a bum shoulder, a husband who trained for an IM at the same time as me. I am content. I know if I focused on this, I would improve and improve, but that's ok. This was more than enough for me. I am at peace with how it all went and my time and my performance. I loved this race and am happy with this season and I have an idea for how the next race is going to go down. And that is what it is all about.

  • Comments: Truly the best Tri experience of my life. The venue is absolutely incredible and I cannot recommend it enough. The bike is tough, but hey it's an ironman what do you expect. The run is epic with a capital epic. So many fans calling your name throughout the whole course. I felt like a rock star the whole run. There were several times during the bike and run that I seriously started to sob. I just couldn't believe that I was doing an Ironman. So much work to get to this place. I just couldn't believe it. There's so many great things that have come out of this. My wife caught the bug and started doing Tri's this year. She lost over 60 lbs. and completed several sprint Tri's. Next year she's moving up to Oly's. I have a whole new group of friends in the Tri community that are so supportive. I've got so many BT friends that are the nicest people on earth. What a great great feeling!!! Awesome Awesome Awesome

  • Comments: Without doubt I can say this is the most demanding physical endeavor I have ever taken on. The amount of time, work, sweat & effort that was involved is something I will never forgot. There were a ton of people who helped me in this multi-year journey and a special thanks to all of them including the fellow Donkeys and triWI member who swam, biked & ran with me. And lastly and most importantly, my wife Colleen who supported me through all this nonsense and all my crankiness..especially leading up to race day! Also a great job to Ironman & WTC for being a class act putting on a great race in a great city. I loved everything about Ironman Wisconsin and would recommend it to anyone.

  • Comments: Volunteers were great, thanks to all who helped out. If you've ever thought about volunteering at an Ironman, I strongly encourage you to do it. I had 2 great years of volunteering - bike handling in T1 and finish line catching in 2010 and body marking in 2011. I also want to thank all who supported me during training and the race itself. Team Ewen truly is the BEST SUPPORT CREW EVER!! Barb & Scott did a great job on site and Trisha helped with posters and updates from home. Thanks to all who were on the course cheering and calling out athletes names. It really does make a difference. • Comments: As always the WTC did a great job with this race. The volunteers were amazing. I was told the spectator levels were down this year. Even if that was true there were still enough to make each participant feel like a rock star. It was an awesome experience to see my wife, sons and two sisters during the run. My friends Craig, Amy, Calvin and Karen always seemed to pop up when I needed them the most. Thank you! During the run I got to meet several people who were not only supportive but inspiring as well. Seeing fireman Rob during the marathon is always inspiring and I was fortunate enough to spend about 15 minutes of the run with a young lady named Ingrid. Ingrid was in an automobile accident a few years ago and suffered a broken pelvis and broken neck. She was told she would never run again but she was doing the IM anyways. She did finish and I hope she was able to receive as much support in return as she provided to me and the others she met during the race. Coincidentally

  • Comments: Others have said it better than I the importance of the volunteers and support from the spectators. I think it's time to give back some of that.

  • Comments: First: thanks to all the volunteers and fans that I encountered at IMWI -- you were great. You helped to make the race something special. In addition to the point about preparation above, I think that I am just not ready for IM. I am going to take (at least) a year off and focus on shorter distances, and then we'll see.

  • Comments: Overall I was happy with race as my first Ironman. I made some mistakes and learned some lessons but it all worked in the end. The support that I received from friends, family and other BT'ers was unbelievable, I can't thank all of you enough. I first had this goal 29 years ago watching the Ironman on TV and can't believe that I was lucky enough to be able to give it a go and accomplish it. Not to be melodramatic but it was one of the best days of my life (aside from my kids and getting married). On to IM Lake Placid for 2012 and then back to Madison in 2013...god willing!

  • Comments: This was my second IM-WI with identical results. I finished dead center in the middle of the finishers and in the middle of my age group. I think that's a decent result. I'd train more and be faster if I had the time, but I think I maintained a good life balance while feeling well-prepared for the race. For those in a similar situation, from Jan 1 through the race I biked 2588 miles, ran 574, and only swam 44. I'd recommend more swimming, but swimming is the most inconvenient sport for me. IM-WI is the most amazing race in terms of fan and volunteer support. It feels like everyone on the course cares about you finishing the race.

  • Comments: My final thoughts: As I alluded to before this journey did not come perhaps as easy as some other people. I had several testing points along the way that just might have stopped many athletes. I wanted to share some of those moments with you….. This race report is about my 1st Ironman journey. The “journey” as I call it had many highs and many lows. One thing is for sure, I have worked so hard to get to this point. This point was the ability "just to get 'er done." During this journey there have been simply amazing days of what I would call terrific training sessions. And there were days, well were training was bad enough to call it quits and get into a real demanding sport like maybe checkers or tiddlywinks. I had done a few sprint tri's before. Last summer had worked towards and completed a ½ Ironman in Door County, WI. I did train and completed what I thought to be a good showing to continue on with a dream of mine, to complete an Ironman. Completing the ½ Ironman was a high point

  • Comments: This race was fantastic again. The volunteers were amazing, things were organized, and the day was all about celebrating the athletes and their accomplishments. They have gotten rid of a few of the perks that helped justify the hefty registration fee you pay for an IM branded race (no inspirational mile, the electronic sign that reads a message someone has left for you only worked for the first loop, really limited selection of finisher gear, stuff like that), and I would encourage them not to get ride of anymore, but it's still a top notch event. Those things are minor. I'm glad I was a part of it and I would absolutely recommend the race to someone considering an Ironman.

  • Comments: After 2 straight DNF's (finished 15 minutes after 12 the first year and missed a run cutoff at mile 18 last year) I did it. I trained so hard this year compared to past. It was the most satisfying feeling to know that I worked for this. I am not a good athlete, and some people make this look easy. It is never easy for me. No part of it is easy.
