  • Comments: Good organization, lots of volunteers, but the bike course really is too crowded for such a large race. Then again, racing on closed streets in the Nation's Capital is pretty cool. Totally stoked about my run improvement. A great race and a beautiful day (MUCH better than the rain last year)

  • Comments: I did have an issue with the parking lots after the race. I knew they would be closed for a bit since the run course went by them. We were told they would open at 11, so I parked there. I thought the timimg would be just right. They didn't open until past 12 so we all had to just sit there. I had a long drive ahead of me. I wish they had a better alternative.

  • Comments: Acknowledge that Nation's Tri is a HUGE race. It will be crowded in Transition. It will be crowded in the corrals. It will be crowded on the bike. It will be crowded at post race. Don't do this race if you have issues with crowding.

  • Comments: It's not the fault of the RD that the swim was cxld, but its still completely bogus. This was my A race for the year, and it was totally anticlimactic. I wish they would penalize the pack riding that occurs on this course.

  • Comments: I'm really encouraged by my performance this year. Had there been a swim, and if I had swam it as well as the DC Tri this spring (35 minutes), I could have had my first ever Olympic Tri under 3 hours! With placing 134 in my age group out of 188 guys, I'm beginning to move from the back of the pack, to the back of the middle pack! Yay! Last tri for the year, but I'll be back at the DC and Nation's Tri's again, plus definitely doing a half iron, and maybe even a full. Good motivation to keep working through this winter, and getting back on the weight loss path. Thanks for reading my long missive.

  • Comments: Additional race report comments at http://radicalimmersion.wordpress.com/ as well as other posts as I prepare for IMLP 2012. RE: Nation's 2011. Each year I get more and more worried about the number of bikes on the course. It is really a madhouse and there are a lot of people who simply don't ride their lines or who will ride the middle of the road even when the right hand side of the lane is available. I don't know what to suggest that would not close the roads to traffic all day...other than limiting the number of entrants or allowing people who have proven certain finish times to start up closer to the elites and pros regardless of age. Overall data from watch: 57:34 in zone 3 106/155/176 heartrates 2,085 calories 140/1:46 from start to when I started watch on bike 152/1:00:13 for the bike split -- this is high by 10-15 bpm 145/2:07 for T2 156/22:33 for first three miles (7:31 per mile pace) 158/7:38 for mile 4 161/7:37 for mile 5 161/7:34 for mile 6

  • Comments: No mile markers on the run except for 5K and 5 miles. Hard to know ones pace when this kind of marking. Overall this was a great race for me. Made good decisions on the bike to ensure a good run. Very happy with this.

  • Comments: OK - putting aside all the 9/11 anniversary emotions. I can't complain abou the lack of a swim - Mother Nature has been cruel in this area for a couple of weeks (actually it was quite a feat to get the race on this week). But I was slightly annoyed that all the medium T shirts had run out by 5pm on Saturday (even with a whole lot of no shows), and far more annoyed that the run course was too short - I mean how difficult is it to measure 10k ? I think though that the organisers need to look carefully at the overall numbers on the bike course given the route : there just isn't enough time to get things spread out. It is amazing there aren't more accidents as there is a massive range of abilities and route is narrow, especially on Clara Barton. Post race is fine - good food and good live band. However even if I wasn't going back to the UK next summer ahead of next year's Nations Tri - I wouldn't do it again.

  • Comments: The rain really changed this event. With all of the mud in the transition it was difficult to push during T1 &2. Overall really good event but large so it is difficult to pass on the bike segment on the narrower roads.
