Pre-race routine:

Woke-up at 4:30 am. Showered, eat breakfast and left the house at 5:15 am. Arrived at the Rose Bowl at 6:15 am. Registered and set-up my stuff.
Event warmup:

None.
Swim
  • 05m 19s
  • 164 yards
  • 03m 14s / 100 yards
Comments:

There were a lot of swimmers in the pool at the same time.Pushed down and run over by one swimmer; ran-up on someone's legs; hit several times by other swimmers. Now I have a better idea of what an open water swim might be like.

What would you do differently?:

Average time was slightly slower than last event. Since this is my weakest event, need to spend more time preparing for swim.
Transition 1
  • 02m 38s
Comments:

This was a reverse tri so this transition was from the run to the bike.
****
This was more than one minute faster than my last event.
Bike
  • 32m 26s
  • 9.32 miles
  • 17.24 mile/hr
Comments:

Good ride. Average was slightly faster than last event.
Transition 2
  • 04m 38s
Comments:

This was a reverse tri so this transition was from the bike to the run.
****
This transition was faster than my last event.
Run
  • 32m 45s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 10m 32s  min/mile
Comments:

My average run time was almost one minute per mile slower than my previous event. My last event was completely flat so the slight incline at the start might have accounted for part of this increase but I also had a hard time finding someone to pace.
What would you do differently?:

I need to increase my mileage so that I can increase my overall speed. Currently, when I run, I am not running farther than a 5K.
Post race
Warm down:

None.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

After my last event on February 27, 2010 (Race on the Base) I took nearly two weeks off from training (partly because this event was sold out). When I was able to secure a transfer, I had about a week and one-half to prepare.

Event comments:

I enjoyed the event. Their were plently of helpful and friendly volunteers and event staff. I never felt lost and there was always someone there to point you in the right direction.
