Pre-race routine:

Got up at 5:15. Had a bottle of water and half a bagel with peanut butter and honey. Got to race site about 5:50 starting setting up transition area. Had the other half of my bagel about 6:10 for a 7:40 start. Also drank half a jar of pickle juice. (I am a very salty sweater). Drinking watered down gatorade up until 30 minutes before start of race.
Event warmup:

Stretching wanted to swim but missed my opportunity becuase of it being a staggered start pool swim.
Swim
  • 05m 5s
  • 229 meters
  • 02m 13s / 100 meters
Comments:

I was happy with the swim would have been nice to go faster but this is the pace I trained for. Got into one situation with a guy doing the breast stroke in the middle of the lane. I had to be behind him for about a half a lane until able to pass. This slowed me down a bunch but I am sure it was his first race aa well.
What would you do differently?:

Perhaps be more aggressive with my passing other than that nothing. Wearing socks during swim really was convientent for the transition and didn't really feel all that funny maybe a little drag but not much
Transition 1
  • 02m 2s
Comments:

Wow never thought I was in the area this long. Got jersey on, glasses, race belt, and helmet. Felt really unsteady after the swim really wobbly but made it though. Took socks off to clean feet. Someone racked their bike on my stuff so when pulling my bike down I knocked their bike down. race staff helped.
What would you do differently?:

Just try to go faster. I might have run a bit quicker from pool to bike. But I was very happy with sequencing
Bike
  • 39m 39s
  • 12 miles
  • 18.16 mile/hr
Comments:

Thought course was a bit hilly but it really wasn't bad at all. I got passed by one guy and passed a bunch of people. I felt really strong on the bike really strong.
What would you do differently?:

Maybe pick up the pace even more. I was coasting a lot on downhills and hammering up hills to conserve energy. I might pedal more on downhills to go a bit faster.
Transition 2
  • 01m 8s
Comments:

Yeah downhill dismount and my shoe got stuck in my left pedal cage. This equals falling with the bike. Not very graceful and a little embarrasing. However my said I wasn't the only one and tons of people fell a lot worse than I did. I feel bad for them because falling sucked!!!
What would you do differently?:

Not FALL!!!!!
Run
  • 34m 15s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 11m 03s  min/mile
Comments:

Very tough and I did not go fast at all. However my goal was to never stop and walk and I accomplished this goal even when my race belt came undone I jogged even slower and was able to fix it. It was a tough run and I am proud of my performance even though it was slow in comparison to others. For me it was a tremendous accomplishment
What would you do differently?:

Next time I might try to put a little more pace going down the hills
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around a lot hugged my wife and son. ate a lot of oranges and drank a lot of water

What limited your ability to perform faster:

my wieght is still not great but I have come along way. With more wieghtloss I am sure my times will get faster and I will feel even better.

Event comments:

Cant really rate post race and overall race since this is my first. I enjoyed myself however and definitely see doing another event.

Course: This course was horribly hilly. I wasn't planning on the hills nor did I realize it by just driving the course. However I am glad I didn't do the course ahead of time because I think I might have siked myself out. But it was a very hilly out and back. Luckily the worst hill was going out.
