Swim
Comments: 1:51 pace. 7th out of 57 women. I had a great start- I seeded myself competetively and really tore out of there. Too bad I wore the wrong suit to swim in... my tri shorts turned out to provide alot of drag. The sports bra was ok. The murky water really threw me off too. My mental state for the swim was "don't worry about competing, just survive!" What would you do differently?: oh my GOD i will not swim in Tri shorts again!! the number 1. rule on race day is "don't try anything new". I tried swimming in the shorts for the first time and it was an EPIC fail! I was dragging the entire swim. It screwed up both my physical and mental aspect of the swim portion. Once again- find people to draft off of! I need to work on the mental aspect of this sport. I can't let little upsets throw me off. Transition 1
Comments: I swung by the shower on my way out of the swim. I also took some time to towel off my face. I know this cost me soem time, but i just HAD to. I felt/looked like the swamp thing. Seriously. I needed to get that gunk off of me so that I could see! I didn't have a wetsuit to change out of, which was nice! My ranking was 43 out of 204. What would you do differently?: skip the shower/towel off? But honestly, I think I'd do that again if I race Vincentown again. That muck was just too gross. Bike
Comments: I must say, its a little disheartening when EVERYONE is passing you on the bike. Still, the cyclometer stayed on my bike the entire course, and I found it really helpful in keeping up my effort when my legs didn't want to do the work. I knew what to expect during a bike portion, so I pushed it harder on the bike this time. There were some hard winds, and my chain dropped at one point ( iwas literally going 10 mph for a couple of minutes till it got back on) but still, a much better effort than last race. What would you do differently?: Get faster! But seriously, I REALLY need to take some time to learn how to handle my bike, and how to shift properly. I also need to learn how to get down on those drop bars to reduce my wind resistence... Transition 2
Run
Comments: ah... the run. :-) This is my payback for all the people who passed me on the bike! I did well- 1st of out 57 women. What would you do differently?: Nothing, other than get faster :-) My run training is starting to ramp up though, so more mileage and speedwork will help. My run was 10 seconds slower than the last race, but considering I biked alot harder this time, I'm ok with that. Post race
Warm down: None (oops again) Event comments: I love the D&Q guys!!! They put on a good race, and the volunteers rocked!! Last updated: 2009-08-10 12:00 AM
