Overall Rank = 45/58
Age Group = Clydesdale
Age Group Rank = 6/6
Pre-race routine:

Got up just before 4:45a and had a bagel with peanut butter and a glass of milk. Packed my stuff in my truck and headed off to Litchfield Park.
Event warmup:

Got my bike and stuff setup in transition and headed in to get into my tri gear. Did some light stretching and just walked around to keep warm.
Swim
  • 10m
  • 400 yards
  • 02m 30s / 100 yards
Comments:

Did a staggered start in the 50m pool. I stared about in the middle and quickly hit pace on the first lap. The second and third lap I stared to hit some traffic and had a bit of trouble getting by even though the lanes were wide. I think I could cut about a minute off my time next swim.
What would you do differently?:

I'm going to start swimming with my local Master's program and I think that will help with my swim speed even though I think I had a good swim time for my first triathlon.
Transition 1
  • 00m
Comments:

T1 went well...I had everything laid out the way I needed it to be. I struggled getting my shirt and socks on with a wet body. I think that took at least a minute to minute and a half more time than needed.
What would you do differently?:

Dry feet and body off better before trying to put clothes on. Roll up socks so they are ready to go. T1 was slow.
Bike
  • 48m 35s
  • 12 miles
  • 14.82 mile/hr
Comments:

I was a bit winded during the bike and exerted a lot of effort to keep the pace I wanted. I rode a lot in the aero position and I think I was faster with that.
What would you do differently?:

I need to get an extension tube for my aero bottle and train..train..train. I also need to get a lot more time riding in the aero position.
Transition 2
  • 00m
Comments:

I was tired after getting off the bike and sat down for a second to catch my breath. I got my shoes changed and grabbed my hat. Stopped to grab a quick couple sips of water and headed off for the run.
What would you do differently?:

I think if my cardio was better on the bike that I could have a faster T2 time.
Run
  • 33m 18s
  • 3 miles
  • 11m 06s  min/mile
Comments:

Run was bad because I couldn't get my heart rate to recover. I just need to get use to running while my HR is around 160. I was trying to get it below 150 but that it would go back up very quickly. Walked a lot but had some good inspirational moments on the run.
What would you do differently?:

Spend a lot of time getting the run better. I also have to double distance for the Oly in 6 weeks.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around for about 5 min and drank some water.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

I just need to increase my cardio level and stat to do some interval training on the run and bike.

Event comments:

This was my 1st tri and I think the sprint was challenging. It was well organized and managed. I would do it again.

This time includes T1 and T2. No splits for them. The bike felt ok but the uphill upwind mile on Litchfield Rd was tough and slowed me down. I was avg'ing about 17-18 mph on Thomas and McDowell and about 22 mph on Dysart. Litchfield was down to about 13 mph though. I'm guessing that my bike time was about 43 min. I rode in the aero position a bit and I think it did make me faster. I passed a lot more people than passed me.
Wind: Some
Course: The course was a 4 mile loop from Lichfield and Thomas to Dysart down to McDowell and back to Litchfield. Was marked very nice and 1 lane was coned off. Police and stop lights so we breezed right through.
