Pre-race routine:

Got to the site around 5:40am with a swim start time of 8:32am. Set up transition and tried to relax.
Event warmup:

Had some water and stretched. No sports drink but I tried to have a power bar, too nervous to eat much of it.
Swim
  • 10m 51s
  • 328 yards
  • 03m 19s / 100 yards
Comments:

I did not know that the pool was only 5 ft deep. Some people who started before me were walking. I did the best that I could but several people passed me. I did walk one-half a length and did swim on my back and side a length. I did let a lot of people pass me at the wall and some people passed me in the middle. All in all, not bad. I did not push myself, trying to save it for the bike and run.
What would you do differently?:

Build up swim endurance. Will do much better next year.
Transition 1
  • 04m 53s
Comments:

Long run from pool to parking lot/transition. I sat down to put my socks and shoes on.
What would you do differently?:

Run faster and practice more.
Bike
  • 52m 33s
  • 12.43 miles
  • 14.19 mile/hr
Comments:

Very little traffic and I passed a few people. Got a big thumbs up from a Harley-Davidson biker. I was worried about riding on the country roads (I ride on bike trails and in bike lanes), but it went very well.
What would you do differently?:

I did better at this than I planned. But next year, I will do better.
Transition 2
  • 01m 55s
Comments:

Tough to move after bike ride, and I needed water and calories.
Run
  • 51m 58s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 16m 43s  min/mile
Comments:

I should have planned better for my calorie needs. I ate at 4:30am and did not start the run till 5 hours later, I think it would have gone better. I stopped for water and some sort of sports drink at the first aid tent before going on the run. I could only run for short periods that became shorter until i walked almost to the finish. I did save enough to trot over the finish line. And FINISH I DID!!
What would you do differently?:

Plan better and train more. I will be working on my running a lot more.
Post race
Warm down:

Felt very hot, sweaty and hungry so I packed up and went back to the hotel ASAP. Next year, I will stay and hang out some.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Need more calories about half way through the bike and more running.

Event comments:

This was a very well organized and run event with lots of volunteers. It was a great first Tri, and I look forward to doing it again next year.
