Pre-race routine:

Didn't sleep well, got up at 5:!5, took a shower to help wake up, drank some coffee, a little Gatorade and ate a bagel with peanut butter. Rode my bike down to transition and set up.
Event warmup:

got in the pool and swam a little bit
Swim
  • 22m 22s
  • 902 yards
  • 02m 29s / 100 yards
Comments:

During the swim I was feeling like things were going well, I felt good, everything was going smooth, didn't get tired or having any problems. Was very surprised when I got out and I was the 2nd to last person in my wave to get out, looked at my watch and it said 22 min. Thought, "well! Must work on the swim for next year, then put it out of my mind!
What would you do differently?:

Need to practice swimming faster, more intervals, and less just long slow swimming. I really felt good, was really surprised to see I was so slow!
Transition 1
  • 01m 55s
Comments:

Had to take some extra time to put a shirt and gloves on, it was only about 40 degrees, out and the course is notorious for having a head wind on the way back
What would you do differently?:

need to get some toe covers for my shoes.
Bike
  • 49m 57s
  • 15 miles
  • 18.02 mile/hr
Comments:

Didn't feel too cold on the bike until I got off, I knew I was cold, but it wasn't really a factor on the bike leg until I got off. Strong tail wind on the way out, strong headwind on the way back, didn't know how hard to push. Never got passed on the bike.
What would you do differently?:

Need toe covers for my shoes, might help my feet stay warmer, feet got very cold on the bike.
Transition 2
  • 01m 48s
Comments:

So cold, moved very slow, need to get elastics shoe laces in my shoes, had a hard time tieing my laces as everything was so cold. I kept my long sleeve shirt on, took off gloves.
What would you do differently?:

Put my lace locks in my shoes
Run
  • 45m 3s
  • 5 miles
  • 09m 01s  min/mile
Comments:

Took my feet about 1.5 miles to un freeze, Overall felt pretty good, but I couldn't geel my feet for about the first 1.5 miles. Other than that I felt really good on the run, didn't get any stitches, was able to pass a bunch of people. Again, I was never passed on the run. Temp was just right for running, nice and cool, no wind.
What would you do differently?:

Felt like I had a great run, not sure how much I can improve. Hill training is definitely helping.
Post race
Warm down:

Got some hot coffee from Hotel Denver, and ate a little bit, watched for Al and the rest of my friends on the course.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

cold and wind on the bike made parts of the race more difficult. My swim time definitely needs improvement, but very happy with overall performance

Event comments:

Great race, will definitely stay on my schedule!
