Overall Rank = 91/425
Age Group = Clyde
Age Group Rank = 4/23
Pre-race routine:

Up at 5:15, on the road by 5:45. Note to self for when I read this next year: The drive is every bit of 1:15 from my house.
Event warmup:

Setup, got a decent transition spot, quick run. Using new wetsuit for 1st time so a little extra swim warmup too.
Swim
  • 16m
  • 880 yards
  • 01m 49s / 100 yards
Comments:

Felt good. Love this lake. Temp and clarity are perfect. 1st time using a sleeveless wetsuit, and I really liked how much less constricting it felt than a full. My ranking wasn't as good as I thought it would be, but I came out of the water feeling strong which is always the goal. Pretty good rhythm.
What would you do differently?:

Cut a little closer to the bouys -- I went wide to avoid traffic but probably lost time.
Transition 1
  • 02m 50s
Comments:

Not great, not terrible. Working on T1 is going to be one of my priorities for next season. Still, felt like I got on the bike feeling strong. This course has about 30 stairs from the water to the bikes. Always an interesting twist.
What would you do differently?:

Have my nutrition for T1 laid out more orderly. I fumbled around for a gelpack and a bit of banana too long.
Bike
  • 50m 30s
  • 16.5 miles
  • 19.60 mile/hr
Comments:

Felt like i went hard and gave it my all. After breaking 21 at Heart of the Lakes, I was disappointed to look at my Garmin and see 19.7. But then when I saw the results, all bike times seemed slower than normal and my ranking wasn't bad. I think the wind was more of a factor than I realized.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing.
Transition 2
  • 01m 7s
Comments:

I like T1 to be about a minute, so nothing wrong with this time.
Run
  • 39m 34s
  • 5 miles
  • 07m 55s  min/mile
Comments:

Really happy with this time. As a Clyde, I'm not exactly fleet of foot, but getting in under 8 min miles is great for me on such a hilly run.
Post race
Warm down:

Shook hands with the guy who a ran neck-and-neck with the whole way -- fun keeping pace with someone like that. Had a look at the lake, some water, and was on my way.

Event comments:

Love this course. Perfect level of challenge for me. Not easy, but also not impossible. Vacation Sports does pretty well with this race, and the location can't be beat.

Love having a September race, too. Now I can kick back, enjoy fall, and focus on shaving a few pounds for next year's season.
