Pre-race routine:

Ate bagel with cream cheese at home, and a banana in the car. Hung out with friends while prepping and took a Red Bull Energy Shot and some Sport Beans before heading to the water.
Event warmup:

Stretched, walked around
Swim
  • 30m 4s
  • 1635 yards
  • 01m 50s / 100 yards
Comments:

Easily the most enjoyable part of the Oly Tri for me. Was able to find a groove and didn't have to worry too many times about running into someone or something. Good sighting, and thankful I bought a new set of goggles a couple of days before the race.
Transition 1
  • 06m 4s
Comments:

Lordy, I hate taking off the wetsuit. I flopped around like a damned turtle on its back and lost a lot of time in transition. Plus, transition felt like a mile away, both getting to the bike and also from the bike to the bike mount location.
What would you do differently?:

Other than question my sanity more, practice more taking off the wetsuit.
Bike
  • 1h 29m 8s
  • 24.85 miles
  • 16.73 mile/hr
Comments:

Man, I bonked with about 6 miles left in the bike leg. My legs could not put out anymore power, and where I started off at about 16.5 mph, my return 5 miles was closer to 15. What a waste. Very disappointing. On top of that, somewhere in the middle of the race, I became very aware of the pain in my ummm, more sensitive regions.
Transition 2
  • 03m 17s
Comments:

T2 was fine.
Run
  • 1h 10m 17s
  • 6.21 miles
  • 11m 19s  min/mile
Comments:

Ugh. I hate the run. I felt like giving up with about 1.5miles left in the race. Kept through it, but I had nothing else to give.
What would you do differently?:

Run more. Question why I did this event in the first place.
Post race
Warm down:

walked around waiting for other competitors, drink water ad finish off some Sport Beans.

Event comments:

This is good race. Well staffed with volunteers, flat, etc. I question spending $80, and I might consider skipping next year.

I had one goal- to finish- which I did. I believe I finished in under 3:30, which was a secondary goal. But the training for this even and the performance has made me question my future goal of a half ironman. Not sure i have the time to train for that event in a manner that would allow me to finish strongly.
