Overall Rank = 58/370
Age Group = Clydesdale
Age Group Rank = 1/29
Pre-race routine:

Woke up @ 6:15, on road by 6:45. PB&J and water on the ride down. Arrived @ 7:15 and set-up T-2. First experience with a two transition race. After chip pick-up I rode down to T-1 and found that our racks were somehow already full. After some creative space making, I got set up and was on the beach by 8 for the pre-race meeting. Walked the beach, stretched and froze until about 8:45. Last in the water.
Event warmup:

Stretching and slow ride to T-2.
Swim
  • 08m 32s
  • 547 yards
  • 01m 34s / 100 yards
Comments:

First leg was shallow and smooth heading to DYC. Current kicked in heading across the river and pushed me in course. Trouble fighting back outside the buoy and getting onto the down stream leg. Current really helped on downstream leg, but again pushed me off course heading home.
What would you do differently?:

Needed different sighting points once I got into the current. Tough to separate from the pack in that short of a swim.
Transition 1
  • 02m 21s
Comments:

The transition area was approx 150 yds. from water exit. Had wetsuit to waist and cap/goggles in hand upon arrival at my area. Wetsuit was tough to remove and getting everything into the plastic transition bag was less than ideal. Shoes, socks and helmet were pretty quick.
What would you do differently?:

Pay more attention to wetsuit removal, prepare for having to pack everything into plastic bag.
Bike
  • 37m 33s
  • 12.43 miles
  • 19.86 mile/hr
Comments:

First time ever riding this bike and it wasn't bad. Course was wide open and had plenty of room to pass. Saved far too much for the run.
What would you do differently?:

Go harder on the bike.
Transition 2
  • 01m 21s
Comments:

Good transition, bad location. Stuck behind walker going into transition and had a full row at my rack. Quick change and re-fuel.
What would you do differently?:

Not much.
Run
  • 24m 43s
  • 3.4 miles
  • 07m 16s  min/mile
Comments:

Good run. Felt great on the wide road, passing and keeping a cadence was tough on the nature trail. Rolled left ankle coming off of nature trail but was able to finish without interruption.
What would you do differently?:

Push the pace into the trail and after the trail.
Post race
Warm down:

Stretch and walk.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

First time at this event. Wind and current played a bit of a factor, but otherwise it was a great day.

Event comments:

Well organized. Wish I could have stayed after the race for a bit.
