Swim
Comments: Well overall it was about what I should have expected what with the no swimming in 3 months ... I am happy with my performance though. A lot of swimmers were having trouble. My sighting wasn't great but the crazy strong current and choppy water made it difficult for anyone. I also tore two large rips into the wetsuit when putting it on, fixable though. What would you do differently?: Train consistently, focused and with a will. That is going to be a common thread on this report. Transition 1
Comments: Swim exited onto a pier which was good for keeping sand off but wasn't great for running on so I walked to the wetsuit strippers and got to transition. I took my time as I was going for a finish only so it was longer than required but I was good to go when I left. What would you do differently?: Nothing,I had everything where I wanted it and if was trying for speed could have cut a minute off easily. Bike
Comments: Need to get on the bike more, couldn't get comfortable to stay in aero which would have helped with the wind. Not a bad course beautiful scenery and ok shoulder. Turn around had to wait a bit but not as bad as some I've heard about. What would you do differently?: Consistent training Transition 2
Comments: Again taking it slow was just going for finish and at that point had plenty of time. Run
Comments: This sucked. First lap was ok, able to get a run/walk combo going but by the second loop my feet were killing me ended up with pressure bruises and my blisters had blisters. Last 5 miles or so was hobling but I finished!! What would you do differently?: Train consistently and with a will Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster: Lack of Training Event comments: I loved this race and will be back proper trained for 2014. Bone Island kicked my but 2013 I'll repay the favor 2014. Last updated: 2012-04-12 12:00 AM

Got into Key West on Thursday night, Friday spent doing packet pickup and dropping my stuff at transition. This would be my first Half and I fell off the training wagon back in October, I couldn't bring myself to get any kind of training going plus my gym membership expired and I never made it to the masters swimming in Charleston. In addition the local bike fitter was out of town by the time I had saved the funds for a bike fit on my B12 so I was less than confident in the fit. So the goal was to have fun and finish in the time limit.
Walked from the rental house to the transition, it ended up half way between transition and the finish line. Got on the trolley and to the swim start.
