Comments:

Interesting. Water was so shallow we walked for the first 2:40 to get into the water. Swam out 700-800m straight into some solid chop. Overall times looked slow as guys in top 10 AG were near 40 min.. I sighted pretty well, took what I felt were pretty good routes, and didn't work too hard. In hindsight, may have pushed a little too hard as my HR was a bit up during the ride.
Transition 1

Comments:

Slower than I needed to be. Dropped my chain as I mounted my bike. So overall could have been better but hey it's transition.
Bike

Comments:

Pushed the pace but that was something I wanted to do. I kept the HR around 140 throughout which is a step up from where i've ridden HIM's in the past, but closer to how I'm training. Felt really good throughout and didn't feel like I was drilling it. The last few miles I thought to myself 'let's see if I can run well off this bike pace'.

Not great, not terrible.
Run
  • 2h 10m 39s
  • 13.1 miles
  • 09m 56s  min/mile
Comments:

Didn't explode but didn't run well at all. Pace was slower than what i'm capable by 10 minutes or so, but it proves that I overbiked for my fitness, but also haven't run enough. Looking back, not happy with the run as a whole, but happy that I was in control, had fun, and was able to still lift my effort over the last 10k.
Post race
Warm down:

hung out with Jenny, went into the water which felt awesome on my legs, too cold to stick my whole body under water.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Not an A race as I'm saving up for the big show in September. Training on bike and run could be better, could have better paced my bike.

Event comments:

Would recommend. Well organized. Lake is beautiful, ride is very scenic in parts if you are like me and like wide open land and some of the views that come with it. Also, you get a pretty good view of the lake (Lake Winnebago is huge) at parts of the bike which is cool. The run course is technical and not a PR run, but trails are easier on your legs and there are a couple awesome views from up on the bluff. Good support across the board with aid.

Stayed in downtown Appleton which was 20 minutes away but had ample restuarants and attractions. Would recommend that too.

First lap kept HR around 156-162, easy pace. Felt in control but slow.
Course: First mile is straight uphill up the bluff. Rest of run is on a trail, lots of weaving in and out, very few straight aways, no major climbs just some ups, downs, and turns. Fun course. Get's a bit hot between miles 3-5 as it's on grass, tight confines yet open to the sun. Lots of shade rest of run.
