Pre-race routine:

Clif Bar and Coffee
Event warmup:

None
Swim
  • 26m 39s
  • 1500 meters
  • 01m 47s / 100 meters
Comments:

Started off to left and swam straight for far turn bouy ratyher then along the marker bouys. Basically no traffic to the first bouy after the start. and no opportunbity for drafting. More traffic on the next two legs but did not cause me to stop at all.
What would you do differently?:

swim a little harder. keep thinking about a strong pull, caught myself lapsing into lazy pull a few times.
Transition 1
  • 03m 10s
Comments:

Long run up to transition but thought I did fairly well considering I put on windbreaker for the bike since it was cold
Bike
  • 1h 12m 40s
  • 24.1 miles
  • 20.03 mile/hr
Comments:

This was main reason I did this race two weeks before IMTX. I had just gotten a power meter and needed to get a better read on my FTP so I could pace IMTX bike properly. Had major issues getting feet into shoes which was unusual but feet were so cold I think the numbness in my toes was the cause. Rode as hard as I could but due to lack of taper prior to race think my performance was sub par..
What would you do differently?:

If this was an A or B race would have tapered the week before.
Transition 2
  • 01m 12s
Comments:

Just had to take off windbreaker and do the normal stuff, no issues
Run
  • 45m 20s
  • 10 kms
  • 04m 35s  min/km
Comments:

Goal was to keep it fairly easy and run to marathon pace as IMTX was two weeks away and didn't want to waste my legs. tripped at the usual dip before the left turn and drew some blood on knee and hand and elbow and jammed left ring finger. bounced back up an ran in mostly at top of zone 3.
What would you do differently?:

If I was racing this leg I should have been able to do 6:52 pace like Kemah the week before.
Post race
Warm down:

medical tent for Ice on hand and bandage to knee.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

I didn't want to on the run. Getting feeet in shoes and not being fresh for the bike cuased a sub par performance there.

Event comments:

DA races are usually well organized and have nicer post race activities then some other RD's.
