Swim
Comments: Not the best swim I've ever had, but it was good for the day I think. I had some short cramps in my foot/calf but was fortunate enough that they went away quick. Also a lot of fatigue in my shoulder (where I have a plate) may end up trying a sleeveless wetsuit to see if it relieves pressure. Nothing much to say really about the swim, stayed in a fairly tight group most of the way down and back. What would you do differently?: I have been skimping on pool yardage. Need to get my butt in the water more. Transition 1
Comments: Long run to t1, and it was good as for some reason I couldn't get my zipper undone on my wetsuit. I get it before getting to my bike though and get everything off fairly easily. I run out and hop on the bike and take off What would you do differently?: Ehh, just wasn't on point today. Just a few tiny things that cost me a few seconds Bike
Comments: In classic me fashion I tried to ride with the big boys, even though I haven't put in near the mileage I was at the end of last season. I rode a 1:08 and probably had the fitness to ride a 1:12 or so. I also managed to forget to take my gel at the halfway point and just as a rule was a bonehead the entire ride. What would you do differently?: Accept where my fitness is ON THE DAY and not where it was last year, and ride accordingly. Also, not make dumb rookie mistakes. Transition 2
Comments: I come in t2 fine and all goes well until I reach down to put on my Zoots. As soon as I'm bent over I'm hit with a violent cramp in my side. I have to sit down on the ground to get my shoes on and take a little time to work the cramp out. I get up and run (gingerly) for the run out. What would you do differently?: Let's see... not bike above my fitness... hydrate better, eat my gel on the bike... You know... basically everything that you should do that I just didn't do. As far as the T2 itself, things went well minus the cramp. Run
Comments: I needed the fork on my first step out of T2, because I was done. I should have been running 6:50's or so and the best mile I ran of the day was a 7:10, with all the rest being above 7:30. Miserable from start to finish, but honestly I got what I deserved. What would you do differently?: Set myself up to run to my potential instead of being a bonehead. Post race
Warm down: I collapse and have a feel sorry for myself moment. Then collect myself and put it behind me. Learn, but let a bad day be a bad day and not dominate you. What limited your ability to perform faster: Just totally butchering a sound race strategy from start to finish. Bike fitness Biking above my fitness level. Event comments: Rev3 Knoxville is a great race. I thought it was a little more "rushed" feeling this year than it has been in the past, but it was still leaps and bounds above most big races. Got up, got some food, got Jenny, got to transition.
As always, I had a morning scare when my front brake cable had come loose (F You Ventus bars and your lack of return spring) but that's to be expected so I didn't freak just got it fixed.
Got in the water and swam around
