  • 02m 15s / 100 yards
Comments:

started out to fast. Had to slow it down and catch breath. collided with drift wood halfway through. Cooler than normal temps this summer and rain the night before brought water temps to 78.5. Almost wetsuit legal.
What would you do differently?:

maybe get the swimmers metronome and pace with that to control start
Transition 1

Comments:

Short t1 to bike. Put shoes on in T1

  • 23.2 miles
  • 20.61 mile/hr
Comments:

came out of water with 75% of field ahead of me. Passed ~30. Didn't get passed but the accomplished cyclists were ahead. Having them in sight may have helped get a faster pace.
What would you do differently?:

This was a club even. The higher level competitors were out.
Transition 2
  • 01m 7s
Comments:

good transition overall.
What would you do differently?:

bodyglide feet or put vasoline in shoes.

Comments:

bone spur on R. Blister starting mile 4. New shoes with 8 miles on them. Race day was longest run this year. Pleased with sub 8:30's considering.
What would you do differently?:

bodyglide feet, vasoline in shoes (sockless)
Post race
Event comments:

The race venue is scenic esp for swim and transition
  • Northeast hosted the club championships this year bringing out strong competitors. The men's 50-54 AG outnumbered the 45-49..just unusual is all. 3 of my club members flatted. . At mile 18 the pavement was cut out across the road for 5'. PS should have laid a carpet on it and posted a volunteer.
  • The overall would be winner was given a 2 minute penalty for a miss-rack of his bike. PS had poorly marked the racks due mostly to age of stickers. The USAT official was overzealous. Rules are rules but there was enough mitigating evidence not to penalize the winner knocking him back to fourth.
Post race food is okay at best. Swag is a finishers shirt and medal.
The intersections were well controlled for the bike.
The run course was out and back on the shoulder of a straight hilly 272. The organizers had the out runners on the shoulder closest to the drive lane resulting in half of them running on the back runners lane typically resulting in the back runner maneuvering to avoid them. The organizers should have had the out runners closest to the grass and back runners closest to the road where they could see traffic.
Could have been better organized. That said I wouldn't mind another crack at the course next year.
