Swim
  • 16m 15s
  • 500 meters
  • 03m 15s / 100 meters
Comments:

I am not a good swimmer! I am so tired of struggling with my nerves! This swim was better than my last open water swim, but it was a far cry from what I have been able to do in the pool. I know I can do this...it is all in my head!
What would you do differently?:

RELAX! If I can hit my stride earlier and keep my nerves under control I think I will be just fine. When my anxiety hits, my breathing gets away from me. I just need more practice in open water.
Transition 1
  • 03m 23s
Comments:

I had some issues with my shoes...first race with them. This cost me a lot of time.
What would you do differently?:

Practice T1...I can get this faster on my next race. Silly mistakes here...this needs to be second nature. I can't remember what happened with my shoes. I know that I somehow pulled all the straps loose when I was getting into them. I should have logged about this right after the race.
Bike
  • 42m 10s
  • 13 miles
  • 18.50 mile/hr
Comments:

Great ride! This is where I know I have made some improvements since last year! Something clicked on this ride and I felt like I really knew how to use my bike to get the most out of the ride. I felt great about this part of the race!
What would you do differently?:

I need to work on my dismount.
Transition 2
  • 01m 55s
Comments:

Anything was an improvement from T1! Things went just as planned...except I forget to get rid of my sunglasses.
What would you do differently?:

Drop my glasses.
Run
  • 29m 45s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 09m 34s  min/mile
Comments:

I really didn't push myself. I know that I can run faster...I just don't. I could have really gained some time here. I was a little disappointed at how I ended. I wasn't really working very hard and crossed the finish line not going all out. It was like the race ended for me after the bike.
What would you do differently?:

I have to keep myself motivated in the run and push for improvement. I have to start training that way so it will happen during race situations.
Post race
Warm down:

Light walking
Water
Light stretching

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Doubting that I could perform faster. The swim always stiffles me. I know this is not my strong suit and I allow it it set the tone for the whole race. I have to push through it.

Event comments:

I know that I need to change how I train. I always key in on what my weaknesses are and those are important things to keep an eye on. In my case, I think they are becoming distractions. I do a lot of things well. I think I would do better to work on getting even better at those things instead of beating myself up on what I struggle with. I was encouraged on the bike and know I can improve my run. I am going to back off (mentally) on the swim for a while and try to put some polish on my strenghts.
