Pre-race routine:

Up for toast and coffee. Backed bag and got p/u by Ken (thanks for driving). Headed to Marmadaddy's house to get him. We cut it a little close getting to the race. Poor Ken started from his truck. Way back. Sorry buddy. He didn't do too bad as he caught me before the first mile. Mike and I only hd to grab our number and chip. He had to register.

Event warmup:

Mike took me for a run out 200 yds with a couple of strides. Stretched out calves and legs. Wore a compression stocking on my right leg. Couldn't find the other one.

Comments:

Started out 3/4 of the way back. It was a little crowded but thinned out well. Started out at good pace. gentle down hill to start. Yeah we were suckers. Ken caught up at 1/2 mile or so. We ran together for 1/2 mile then he moved ahead. Past a mile at 8:05. Hey we aren't doing bad. I waved Ken to go at his own pace and he slowly moved ahead. My breathing was a little labored so I knew I was pushing along. Had to work mentally to keep running. I don't know where that came from. Two miles 17:06, YES moving right along. Right calf feeling good. No pain. The let calf is talking. Pushed hard and rounded the corner home. A gentle man next to me gave me some encouragement. 26:30 on the clock. Could I break 27 maybe how far is that finish line. Well a little far. My unicorn buddy (Ed) was there to cheer me in along with Ken and Jamie. Marmadaddy was waiting over the finish line. Finished well and walked a little to get the HR down.
What would you do differently?:

Wear two compression stockings.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked and stretched a little.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Hitting a stick turning my left ankle on a stick cutting the corner to close. I think the guy on the corner was amazed I didn't fall. I have a lot of practice. My extra wgt doesn't help either.

Event comments:

Great little 5K. Well organized and well run. Great to ride up with Ken and Mike. Thanks for running with me a while Ken. The weather was great. Flet good on the calves and finished well. I'm happy with it.
