This was my first pool triathlon. The pool portion of the swim wasn't very organized and it seemed that people were not lined up according to swim time. There were also only 5 seconds between starts. I ended up getting stuck in a big pack of people who proved impossible to pass so instead of continuing to get kicked in the ribs when trying to pass I decided to take it easy and conserve energy for the other two events.I know I could have covered the distance faster if I had not been stuck in the pack. I finally gave up and did some breast stroke to conserve energy. At one point I drafted for the first time and could not believe how much more quickly I was able to move.
What would you do differently?:

Train more consistently.

Course was hilly and completely new to me. I did not have time to drive the course before the event. In addition I had a problem with my front derailler ( i believe it got adjusted during tranport) that did not allow me to switch to my low gear to pull up the hills easier. Other than that I felt pretty good about the bike and my energy level.
What would you do differently?:

Ride the course. learn a little about bike repair!

Run course was challenging. I ran mostly and then speed walked a few intervals.

Train more. My running has been really inconsistant as of late and it is starting to show! I need to cut out the walking!

It was a fun event and I felt better about this one than my first triathlon. I felt like I did better about reserving energy for all three portions instead of burning it all on the swim.
