Pre-race routine:

Nice that this race was closer then usual and started later then usual. Got up and to the race with plenty of time to spare.
Event warmup:

Got my transition area set up and walked around for a while.
Swim
  • 12m 5s
  • 500 yards
  • 02m 25s / 100 yards
Comments:

Not one of my better swims. There was a lot of chop heading out to the first buoy, not very big waves just continuous. Had some trouble relaxing and getting into a rhythm. Felt out of breath, tight in the wetsuit and uncomfortable the entire swim. This is usually my best event of the three but I really stuggled today.
Transition 1
  • 00m
Comments:

Did not get a split for T1, was trying to recover from the long run on the beach and calm down for the bike.
Bike
  • 1h 07m 15s
  • 18.64 miles
  • 16.63 mile/hr
Comments:

Had a tough ride. Just could not get comfortable and settled the entire ride. Legs felt tight and I was tired.
Transition 2
  • 00m
Comments:

No split for T2
Run
  • 31m
  • 3.11 miles
  • 09m 58s  min/mile
Comments:

I did my best to start off slow and easy hoping to turn it up on the second half. The first quarter mile was all uphill which did not suit me well. I was just slow the whole run, had to walk a couple of times to jjust get relaxed. As I approached the finish area I was able to speed up some and finish strong.
Post race
Warm down:

Easy walk, eat and drink some/

What limited your ability to perform faster:

This has been a really tough summer for training. I have been so busy with school and Evan that I find it hard to get in the training I should. I guess I should be pleased with finishing under the circumstances but I am pretty hard on myself and know I should have performed better. I also really underestimated this race, thought it would be easier.

Event comments:

The folks at Camp Pendleton put on a great race. The volunteers were really supportive and friendly. Would do this race again.
