Pre-race routine:

I had a rough night sleeping last night. As in did I get any sleep? My husband snored badly, his pager went off twice and then his cell phone when he thought a page was for the on call team and not him. That being said, I flew out of bed like an oversprung jack in the box at 4:30 with the alarm. Threw on my tri suit and started the coffee/bagels. Went upstairs to make sure Susan and Chrissy were awake too. We ate breakfast and grabbed our gear bags, Susan followed Chrissy and I up to the site.
Event warmup:

Got marked. Had the girl write a "for Lucy" on my leg when she marked me. Found my chip. We got there early enough but the transition area closed at 6:40 so there wasn't a whole lot of warm up time since we had to park farther away from the Y than we usually do.
Swim
  • 07m 30s
  • 328 yards
  • 02m 17s / 100 yards
Comments:

I was tired and feeling hungry when the swim started. I didn't get into the water until after 8:30 so that was a long time since breakfast and I had neglected to pack an Optimum bar to eat. Got passed by one person who then finished the swim WALKING. Damn, why bother to pass a swimmer if you're only going to effing WALK the pool? I didn't feel in my swim groove, didn't feel bad just no mojo. I think my fatigue was a hurdle for me here.
What would you do differently?:

go sleep on the couch so the snoring, pagers and phones wouldn't bother me! Remember to pack NUTRITION even for a sprint!

9 seconds less in swim time from Shady Grove Power Sprint last year.
Transition 1
  • 02m 37s
Comments:

Transition run is relatively long behind the Y and into the parking lot. THere's a small piece of old carpet thrown down but you still feel the gravel under the mat.
What would you do differently?:

move faster
14 seconds faster than last year
Bike
  • 45m 24s
  • 12.43 miles
  • 16.43 mile/hr
Comments:

There's no comparing my bike this year to my first tri last season(same couse). Last year I was on a hybrid and it was pouring. I was DFL for the age group on the bike last year. Today was sweet. I felt shaky and was very glad I had packed a bottle of Heed on the bike. I drank that most of the ride. Kept a pretty good speed for most of it. Had a problem when I turned on to Ashland Rd, changed gears in the back ring and it felt like the chain slipped, like there was no chain on any ring. I tried back pedaling and it didn't feel like it had caught so I quickly hopped off to make sure things were okay back there since I was in no mood to wipe out. Played cat and mouse with one of the ladies from Tri Girls along this stretch of road. Started passing folks toward the end and met my goal time (yay) I think my bike split today was 18 minutes faster than when I did this course last year at Power Sprint. I'll take that any day!
What would you do differently?:

Still need to get the fit adjusted more since it's still not quite high enough to turn the cranks when I go aero to be remotely comfortable

This was a huge improvement over Shady Grove Power Sprint last year...about 12 minutes worth!
Transition 2
  • 01m 55s
What would you do differently?:

I grabbed my water bottle from the bike which was hard to run with but I was glad to have it.
Run
  • 31m 55s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 10m 16s  min/mile
Comments:

I never got past a slog with this run. I was slurping on the hammergel and water for most of the first part of the run but my lack of sleep and the heat were catching up to me. I know it was SLOW, but I kept running (if you can call it that for how slow it was). Once past the turn around I sporadically poured water from my water bottle on my head, neck and chest. OMG that felt good. It's didn't give me the push to kick up my pace any but it felt better.
What would you do differently?:

It all starts with the lack of sleep last night compounded by my forgetting to grab the Optimum bar for my transition bag when I put stuff in last night.....

Hmmm, run time is about 1:55 slower, just felt like a slog...lost the time improvement on the bike to this...
Post race
Warm down:

Stood under a fan in the pavillion, finished my (warm) water. Chrissy, Susan, Kristen and I found each other and hung out. The Chipotle tacos were awesome. There wasn't anything else to drink but water but it was at least COLD so it tasted great!

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Being overtired and hungry.

Event comments:

Set up events always does a great race! If I had felt better physically this would have been a terrific race for me. It wasn't craptastic, but I wouldn't say it was awesome.
