Overall Rank = 333/400

Age Group Rank = 34/40
Pre-race routine:

Woke up at 4:30. Made a muffin and tea and hopped in the car for the hour drive to Coolidge.
Event warmup:

Unpacked my stuff, hung out with TriGirls Mea, Lynelle and Kathy. Saw Leslie and Holly who were up there cheering us on!
Swim
  • 10m 20s
  • 437 yards
  • 02m 22s / 100 yards
Comments:

The line to start was a complete mess. They had signs on the fence to group us into swim times (5-6,8-9, etc) and then yelled at us to get into a single file line. The little TTG coalition started out by the 8-9 min sign and got shoved back past the 10-12 min sign. We were kind of smushed against the fence and when finally could see the pool we saw that there were people breastroking and doing elem. backstroke who started before us! When I finally got in I got passed by a couple of people but then nearly ran into a breastroker and while I tried to pass him some other guy came up on my right and swam between us. Fabulous. Failed on the first attempt getting out of the pool and made out on the 2nd try.
What would you do differently?:

Swim faster? Push to the front of the line.
Transition 1
  • 01m 40s
Comments:

Don't know the exact time as they lumped T1 & T2 into the bike time. But my total T time was about 3:20, so I just divided it.
Bike
  • 42m 32s
  • 10.3 miles
  • 14.53 mile/hr
Comments:

This is by far the easiest of the 3 for me. I kept leapfrogging two different girls but finally passed them at the end and kept them at bay until T2.
What would you do differently?:

Work on keeping my cadence high.
Transition 2
  • 01m 40s
Comments:

Good, but I forgot my visor.
Run
  • 36m 52s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 11m 53s  min/mile
Comments:

The first aid station was out of water. But had ice, so I took a cup of that and shoved it in my back pocket. I threw a few pieces down my shirt once in awhile and relied on the rest to melt and splash on my back.

It took a good mile before I finally felt that I could run without totally collapsing, but by then I had to pee. There was no shade and I had no visor so that probably didn't help.

It was my first sub-40 min 5k in a tri or other race. I'm thrilled by that fact alone.
What would you do differently?:

More bricks. I need to be better about getting of the bike and being able to pick up some "speed".
Post race
Warm down:

Bathroom.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Need more brick training. I say this after every race but never do it. Goals for next year.

Event comments:

Next years goal is do finish a sprint < 1:30.
