Total Time = 5h 54m 22s
Overall Rank = 100/177
Age Group = 45-49
Age Group Rank = 14/20
Pre-race routine:

Woke 5 am had 2packs oatmeal and 3 mini bagles. Drove to race with small coffee. Set up transition area, rained and socks got a little wet.
Event warmup:

Sat around and waited for rain delay, no warmup. Bull shitted with Racers. How do you warm up for this, did swim 50 yds just to get suit set.
Swim
  • 48m 57s
  • 2112 yards
  • 02m 19s / 100 yards
Comments:

Very rough swim , first open water with waves, was shooting for 45 min so it was not to far off mark. Next year we learn bilatteral breathing.
What would you do differently?:

learn bilatteral breathing
Transition 1
  • 02m 6s
Comments:

Took suit off on beach, long run up to T1,
What would you do differently?:

was third fastest in t1 for age group
Bike
  • 2h 54m 52s
  • 56 miles
  • 19.21 mile/hr
Comments:

Guessed I could do 18 mph so I was happy with 19.2, still was slow in age group, maybe its the bike LOL. Drank 750 calories of Infinite plus water, took three gels in. Think needed more nutrition on bike and less on run
What would you do differently?:

Hammer harder, need seat readjusted, it bothered me.
Transition 2
  • 01m 47s
Comments:

socks slowed me down and ran with fuel belt
What would you do differently?:

no fuel belt?
Run
  • 2h 03m 24s
  • 13.1 miles
  • 09m 25s  min/mile
Comments:

Drank quite a bit, took two gu's. Felt dehydrated, but stomach was sloshing. Had to stop and pee at ten mile mark. Face was like sandpaper with salt covering. Need to try salt tablets.
What would you do differently?:

drink on schedule, use salt tablets
Post race
Warm down:

Drank water and walked. I got a massage, which felt great.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

First race, not wanting to bonk. Bike seat.

Event comments:

Was a pretty good race, rain delayed and waves caused rough start. Bike was ok need to get faster. Run was ok, had moments of mental fatigue. Will probably do it again next year.
