Pre-race routine:

Up at 7:00am thinking why. Got yelled at twice by someone before 8:00am. One I deserved, one was slap hello what are you thinking.
Had toast and a ranger cookie. Made coffee and hit the R-stops. M-daddy had company and Ken was recovering from a cold. Left about 8:05 cause we were late last time. First weather report int hte car was a windchill advisory. Drive up was good and got there in plenty of time. Well that happened well. Hour and half to waste. Got a nice parking stop. Sat in the car staying warm. Thought about driving the course but why give up a good parking space.
Event warmup:

Took a 1/4 run next to a guy who kept saying "Why am I doing this it's not to late to go home. He did run it. Sat in the car more. Then stood 3/4 ways back in the pack huddled close to a little lady that was freezing to death. Next time I need to find a line of tall guys to stand in front of to block the wind. Girls would be good too.

Comments:

Well why? Luckily they came out and said "GO". No dinking around. Thinned out quickly which was a good thing given the footing. It was either hard pack snow, black ice, or lose snow. You had to plant, concentrate and hope it held. Wore my trail shoes which helped out.
Started out a a comfortable pace, didn't want to aggravate the ankle pain. got down the slippery slope to main road and a little pavement. Gone soon as we turned the corner into the neighborhood. Found it was easier to run on the hard pack snow. Passed and got passed. 8:25 first mile I'll take it on this. Mile 2 got out of headwind and started to warm up some. Started to enjoy the run instead of why? The corner that got me last year didn't seem so bad this year. Finished strong I was gaining on a guy, but I hate getting passed in the chute so I let off a little to let him finish.
What would you do differently?:

Maybe wear my wife's kleats.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around in the cold which felt good. Headed inside to get some soup. Some really good turkey soup. Love the both after cold runs. Stood and talked to some of the Canandaigua runners club. Actually get hot standing inside. They couldn't post results because the ink froze.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Surface.

Event comments:

Now I can get on the coldest run thread. 6F start to finish. Brrrr.... The hardest part was standing to start. Good call Ken. Heard of at least one runner going down. Nice that the ambulance left on it's own accord. You always wonder why I do this prior to starting and think I really enjoy it when it's done. Good race. Three down, three tough ones to go.
