Event warmup:

Swam a bit in the water and that was pretty much it.
Swim
  • 07m 16s
  • 500 yards
  • 01m 27s / 100 yards
Comments:

Got stuck between a couple women at the start, but did not have any difficulties after that. I need to work on racing the swim more and not just swimming.

Transition 1
  • 02m 44s
Comments:

There were wetsuit strippers which was a first for me. That was fun.
My pedal turned upside down before I got my foot on my shoe. I had to stop and restart to get going, so the start of the ride was not good.
Should have thought to put my toe warmers back on my shoes. My feet were numb from being cold until 2 miles into the run.
What would you do differently?:

Practice getting into shoes more.
Bike
  • 55m 1s
  • 18 miles
  • 19.63 mile/hr
Transition 2
  • 01m 21s
Comments:

I did not replace my laces with yankz and tying my shoes with shaky, cold fingers was more time consuming than I expected.
Run
  • 25m 24s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 08m 11s  min/mile
Comments:

I felt sluggish at the start and my feet were numb, but it turned out to be a pretty decent run for me.
Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster:

lack of training. I was pretty happy with my performance overall so I can't really complain.

Event comments:

I thought the race was pretty good overall. It was better than I expected. The venue was really nice and great for the kids to come and watch b/c there were open areas to run around and the beach was awesome. There was also a playground, but it was flooded. Since it's a pretty small race, there weren't too many people all over either. I thought the course was pretty nice as well. The lake seemed pretty clean, the bike was hilly, but not too hilly and the roads were smooth and traffic free for the most part. The run was pretty shaded as well. For a local race, that's not too far away, I'd give it an A. If we weren't going out of town, I'd be back for Disco in July.

Course: There was some wind on the way out that slowed the pace and made the rolling hills seem worse than they were. After the turnaround, I was able to cruise. It was out and back so the hills were essentially the same, but the ride back was much more fun. There were part of the ride where the roads were not smooth, but for the most part they were in pretty good shape as long as you didn't get forced back onto the shoulder where the should was patched.
