Pre-race routine:

redbull 45min before and gel 15min before
Swim
  • 21m 7s
  • 1500 yards
  • 01m 25s / 100 yards
Comments:

swim went a lot better then the last one at buffalo springs, the water felt great and i started to the far left so i didnt get trampled in the water and freak out.
What would you do differently?:

swim more and focus, not breast stroke around the boueys, be more confident in my swim, and train more to be more effective in the water
Transition 1
  • 03m 49s
Comments:

ok so it was a long run from the beach to transition but i still took close to 2min longer then i should have. the stripers poped the wetsuit off pretty quick, took 3 yanks for the ankles to break (maybe 6 or 7 seconds) got to transition and dried off, put on jacket, socks, shoes, benie, helmet, gloves, in that order. tried off legs real quick again, then ran out.
What would you do differently?:

not dress like it was freezing b/c it really wasnt that bad, but i was comfortable on the bike
Bike
  • 1h 09m 23s
  • 23 miles
  • 19.89 mile/hr
Comments:

pretty flat, and few small hills, nothing i would call a climb. got into a good groove early, avg about 18 or so into what i thought was a crosswind til i hit the turn and started going 28mph, the suprise tailwind was a nice bonus. the last 7mi or so the road was real sketchy, lot of potholes and rough spots but i knew that from driving the course the day before. overall i was pleased with the bike split. went about 85 percent most of the way to save my legs for a good run.
What would you do differently?:

overall i was happy with the bike, maybe push a little harder on the way in but not much
Transition 2
  • 00m 52s
Comments:

pretty quick trasition, ran shirtless so all i did was take off helmet and jacket, slide shoes on and clip race belt of and go, put watch on at start of run.
What would you do differently?:

learn to pedal on top of shoes and do rolling dismount
Run
  • 41m 18s
  • 6.2 miles
  • 06m 40s  min/mile
Comments:

put together a soild run, about 2min faster then i expected. i wanted to hit the turn in 21 and i hit it in 21:45ish, wanted to negitive split and as i kept passing people it gave me more and more juice. hit my negitive split and ran a soild 10k
What would you do differently?:

push a little harder and the way to the turn, i should/could of been there in under 21min.
Post race
