  • Comments: Overall, this was a great learning experience. I now know what it feels like to put your body through 5 plus hours of duress, and the strength needed to keep your head about you for good decision making throughout. I am VERY satisfied with my performance and am grateful to have had the opportunity to test myself and learn more about myself. That said, the race has also left a sour taste in my mouth. It's woken up a beast inside me that hungers for more. I need to conquer this running thing. I know it won't happen right away, and I'm OK with that. But I have a new mission in triathlon. I'll be back.

  • Comments: One of the best races I have been to. Great after race food. I think the race would be much better if it did not go up the bluff on the run.

  • Comments: Sean Ryan is the race director. This is a very well run race. Course is scenic and well laid out. The course markings are the best I've seen (e.g. stand up signs at every mile, road marked before every turn, during the turn and after every turn) including IM branded races. There were even wetsuit strippers (haven't had those at any race I've been to so far). Real post-race food, i.e. pulled pork sandwiches, was a nice treat (although one sandwich normally is not a lot of food for a hungry triathlete). Volunteers were plentiful and enthusiastic. Race only had 407 finishers this year, but is open to 1000 next year. It's a great little race. highly recommended!

  • Comments: I say "just right", but it's kinda in between that and "too hard". I felt like I was going to die, but it was mostly my fault :-] I love learning lessons!!! Now it's 2 olympics, then the end of my tri season. I know what to do next season.

  • Comments: First off... I heart Sean Ryan. This was an amazing race from start to finish and he is an amazing race director. Second the volunteers and fans were amazing as well. They were there when I needed motivation to get me through. Third my parents are amazing. They spent 7:30 worrying, wondering how I was doing and sharing in my victory as well as all the hours of training. This was an wonderful race. I didn't honestly know if I would make it but soooo many people believed in me and I not only did it for me, but for everyone. I am honored to now be a half ironman and I am already thinking about next year and maybe bigger things. For anyone who doesn't think they could do it... three years ago I couldn't run a mile nor did I want to, could swim but not 2000 yards and well biking in the middle, yeah right. Believe in yourself... look what you can do :)
