  • Comments: Happy with the swim as I was just grateful to be out there again. It's a great event that I hated missing (although last year was super cold, so I guess if I was going to miss one or two....). Thank god shirts were OK this year. Not the best, but not the ugliest.

  • Comments: Most everyone I talked to (and me) ended up with cuts as a result of the stupid plastic timing chip they used. They even had bandaids at the "cutoff" because so many people were cut. Hopefully this is a one year experiment. This is a great swim, I have a friend that's done it for 25 years straight, hope I can keep up a streak like that.

  • Comments: This is my third year doing this race. It's a huge event in the South Bay community, as a part of the three day International Surf Festival. Each year about 2/3 of my Masters swim group focuses on this as their big race of the year, and for some it is the only race they do. It's a lot of fun and always a bit humbling for a triathlete to compete against "real" swimmers.

  • Comments: This is my second year in this swim, and I love it. I also love that I have a group of friends and training partners to hang out with before and after the race. Last year, I knew them, but it was just me and my wife. Training has added an amazing aspect to my life. As for the swim, ohhhh, so close to 57 :) Looking at the numbers, 5+ minutes off last year's time (which is all relative, can't really compare year to year, although overall times were slightly faster this year), 5 places higher overall. Last year I was at 37%, this year top 30% in AG, last year top 30% overall, this year top 26% overall (whattatridorkiam :) ), so there is improvement! This is also in my mind a classic swim, that anyone living in L.A. or nearby has to do as part of their yearly schedule.
