  • Comments: Despite my disappointing times in the bike and run and in T1& T2, I'm pleased with my performance. The hiccups I experienced were so minor and proved to be a great learning experience. I'm lucky that I didn't have to deal with any remotely catastrophic issues (mechanical issues on bike, cramping, etc). I had a really good time and enjoyed the overall vibe of the race. Lots of really nice people. Great first time tri experience. To anyone contemplating a tri - especially AOAs (adult onset ahtletes), read Jayne Williams' "Slow Fat Triathlete". It is a must read for newbies, especially those of us who weren't athletic in our younger years. She's incredibly inspiring and encouraging and she offers lots of sage advice (which I didn't follow). I'm really interested in hearing from anyone who experiences tachycardia, exercise induced asthma or other issues with elevated heart rate.

  • Comments: I improved 3:30 from last year, so I am very happy about that. I know I can improve my running and transitions along with biking and swimming. Overall I am happy with the result an am looking forward to a winter maintenance run focused program.

  • Comments: I feel elated to have finished my first Triathlon. Its an amazing journey. About three months ago, roughly, my mate and I decided to go for it and train for the Long Beach Tri. I was too heavy (still am), unfit to hell(getting better) and wanted to do something challenging and good for me. The triathlon thing is just what I was looking for. Three sports instead of one and goal based training - Love it. Overall - I should have tried harder in the swim. I felt I put in pretty well in the bike and a reasonable effort in the run but I should have been stronger in the swim. I think my transitions went well. The best bit is I cant wait to get out training again and am looking forward to my next race.

  • Comments: Same story as 2005. No activities. Vendors and Volunteers are bored. All staff seem to be just waiting for race to end. A lot a newbie and vet racers makes the competetion fun. Lots of room on bike course is cool. Fun race and I'm happy with my improvement

  • Comments: Pacific Sports does a fine job. There are minor pecadillos as in any race, but they are minor. Not worth a mention (ahem, race result format is a little weak). The traffic control was fantastic as it was last year. The control of mother nature was also commendable as it was last year. The first flush rain event I cannot, in good concience, blame on the race director. These guys do a fine job. Success! the young Spratt is now encouraged, having watched a few youngsters his age or less cross the finish line before me, despite the fact that their wave started later, to train for a sprint tri. If for no other reason than to prove that he can kick his mom's boyfriend's a$$! I feel good about this. The swim course was fowled badly by what amounts to poor luck, but this was still a wonderfully organized event in my opinion. I recommend it to all.

  • Comments: An enjoyable race - great for beginners or for those who want to do a good but short race. The number of racers though should be factored into how fast you can expect to go.

  • Comments: Good race, close to home. For the pricey entry I would have expected something in addition to water, oranges and bananas (like a bagel or muffin) at the finishing area food table. I'll definitely do it again.

  • Comments: LB was my first race in 2006 and I ran 1:40 then, so I knocked 5 min off of last year's time. I feel pretty good about that, and will definitely be back to my "index race" next year.

  • Comments: AWESOME race for beginners. Expo day prior was weak - could use more STUFF. had a DJ at the finish line, would have loved one at the 2.5 mile point on the run! rumour is some folks want to make this charity event a PRO race. Just say no!

  • Comments: This, the Long Beach Sprint Triathlon, is what happens when mother nature, the host city and the race organizer vow to cooperate, lock arms, clasp hands and decide to put on a race. Mother nature in charge of coercing the sun to rise at the exact moment the race starts, miraculously causing the waters at the filthy and unsanitary mouth of the LA River to be relatively clear and completely calm, and for dismissing the otherwise everpresent Southern California marine layer. The City of Long beach in charge of shutting down virtually the entire bike route to any kind of vehicular traffic and allowing the use of the Shorline Marina bike path for the run route. Pacific Sports, the race organizer, in charge of laying out a simply marked, well tended race route, aid stations and transition area. I felt like I "raced" if not quite competitively, in this one as opposed to "participated" in order to see if I could finish, which was the case with my last race. I hope to actually "compete" in

  • Comments: Staff were generally curt or rude. VIP check in didn't open until 5:30 but if you already had a packet you could go set-up. Many of the volunteers seemed to be court mandated doing community service hours. They were not helpful and on the course would say "almost there!" even though I knew I still had 8 miles to go. There were drinks every mile on the run, unfortunately no one was watching a certain corner where you could leave the course and save about 15 seconds by cutting it. I was bumped by a runner doing just this. Security in the Transition area was surprisingly good. The only post race thing I saw were some massage tables and one masseuse. Staff made sure things happened but they didn't bring much charm to the event. This many of the racers seemed overly competetive on this course. My impression which may be totally wrong, is this is the race where the very mediocre come out and get really agressive. I saw more people needing medical on this race than any other, but this wasn't

  • Comments: Great Race. I was overflowing with pride as I swam, biked and ran along side of my son. As we approached the finish line the emcee announced that Logan Morin "was only 10 years old"...the crowd was very vocal..clapping and cheering him on. He sprinted the last 100 yards. Many contestants gave compliments and kudos when they saw him out there "doing it"

  • Comments: Overall, I was very pleased considering I've never done anything like this before. I felt very well prepared going in, however I feel as though I really didn't push myself as hard as I could have. I think in certain respects I overthought the notion of pacing myself.

  • Comments: Pretty good race. LOTS of cool volunteers. My goal was 1:22. Hit 1:24:54, so not bad. 490 out of 1001. Solid MOP'er. I misjudged my cycling ability, and need to speed up the transitions. It's a nice local race, and actually glad I did it instead of Malibu. I will do it again next year.
