  • Comments: This is a small regional race but super competitive. Top rated triathletes nationally in the race in my AG. If I had this time last year would have been 3rd by more than 4 minutes - this year the time got me 9th in AG. Tough hills but very well run, a lot of local club representation at the race.

  • Comments: Great early season race at a great location. Very competitive too; the local multi-sport superstars all seem to show up for this one, and it is a good early season tune-up. Heck, it's worth entering just to see all the awesome new tri-bikes. Cervelo seemed to be the favorite this year.

  • Comments: Early April is a tough time to race, but the race was well organized and it is a really tough field. PR'd by mins. I need a lot of hill work, but riding the day before for 90' on the drainer probably didn't help (but that is still a lame excuse), Hard efforts on the run made up for a poor showing on the bike. Happy with the result though.

  • Overall course based on my ability: Too hard

  • Comments: All of my training to date has been built around longer and slower runs and rides as I prepare for the long duathlon in June. That's what made the course too hard. I think it would've been fine if I'd been training more for a short course, with some speed stuff thrown in. Another thing I noticed is there were some real serious competitors there. Todd Wiley as director probably brought those out, but the studs and studettes were very much in evidence.

  • Comments: This is a beautiful park and the organizers do a great job. Pulling into the parking lot and seeing the sun coming over the lake is great for getting the blood flowing, and the first race of the year is always exciting. Everyone is checking out each others bikes and being extra friendly. I was hoping to be a little faster, but that's life. I was about a minute slower than I thought I'd be for each of the runs, but I was very happy with the bike. T1 was so bad I had emails from my friends about it afterwards. With friends like this... The reality is that I was 23 minutes faster than I was last year, so that is a huge improvement. Since this is the first regional event of the year a lot of fast people show up, and I finished top third, so I'm happy. The difference between third AG and my time was 3 minutes, which means I'm within striking distance. The highlight of the race was getting chicked while I was finally off the hills and hammering on the bike at 27mph, and then afterwards

  • Comments: No signs at entrance to park indicating race. Even at a fork in the park road there was no sign showing racers where to go for event parking. And despite detailed race sign-up people were mis-assigned. Friend who signed up as a Clydesdale was put in age group. I signed up as first-time racer and had to correct that just before race start. These issues were important since individual time did not start on crossing first timing strip. My Clydesdale friend finished second in his class, but was not recognized because his age group started 2nd wave rather than 4th, so his finish time was miscalculated.

  • Comments: So excited Chris and I did so well for our first race. I felt good with my nutrition, although I still think Goo's taste nasty and leave a film in your mouth. Great event. Only sad we didn't take a single picture of the two of us!!

  • Comments: This was the first time for this race and I thought they did a pretty good job considering the challenges of the weather. I think they were short on volunteers but they managed (I think) mostly by drafting the majority of the spectators to help out, and the ones that helped did a heck of a job. I don't like the hill right out of transition (and back into it) and the road conditions on the extra distance they tacked on were horrendous, with serious, teeth-rattling, seatpost busting, gaps in the asphalt every 20-30 yards. But I think this can be a great event going forward.

  • Comments: Organization was tops! Everything was on time and volunteers were great! This was a fun and memorable race. There were 14 DNF's this year which is a pretty high number for the size of the race. Hopefully next year the conditions will favor a little faster race because this was a fast and fun course!
