  • Comments: While I really love this event and the "vibe", and think it's generally a well-organized event, this is the second year in a row they've had timing issues. Last year awards were given out erroneously and it ended up I won an award in my age group after the awards were straightened out but it took almost a year before I finally got the award that I was told would come last September or October (just got it a week before this year's event). This year the results were all over the place and the finishing places keep changing. I am listed as 27th overall one place, 25th overall another place, 5th in my age group one place, 7th in another place...there's someone with a swim time of 3:14 (wish I could have seen that swim!) and a lot of people with off-the wall times (top finishers with 10+ minute/mile runs). It's just frustrating and I haven't ever experienced such confusion in any other race I have run. Again, I think it is a great race, super support and very well organized...aside from

  • Comments: This year the race just seemed off. The packet pickup and the wait for racking the bike was a bit of a pain. Race morning the parking volunteers did not seem to know what they were doing. This is a great race, especiallly for first timers. I like this race since it was my first tri but, it is just so packed out on the course. I may do this again just not for a couple of years. I was 2 minutes slower than last year and really think the swim was longer. I was faster in T1 and the bike overall 3 minutes faster and T2 and the run was 2 mintues slower. I think I would have been either the same or a bit faster if the swim wasn't long. Overall I'm happy with what I did.

  • Comments: this was a fantastic race. Very well organized, and the volunteers were great! I'm very glad I chose it as my first race. My two complaints were 1) the water smelled like poop - I can't explain it, it just did. and 2) it took me like 10 min to find the food tent after the race, it was up, behind a hill. I wish it was more accessible. Other than those two - I would not have changed a single thing about the race. The location, weather, and staff were all amazing!

  • Comments: Best race vibe around! All the swim starts were delayed due to traffic problems. Relays started in the last wave, around 1.5hrs after the race had started; I didn't like that. It was fun to have teammates to root for but I'm not sure I'd do another relay.

  • Comments: This years race was not as good as last year. Prior to the start the announcer was having to tell people to get out of the transition area more than a few times. The post race food was gross. I really wanted sugar and pizza and all they had was some kind of healthy rice mixture, TLC cookies and bananas, half bagels, fruit punch/water. YUCK!!!! The good thing was they gave us our finish times on a nice card. We left fast for a nice juicy burger!!!!

  • Comments: Improved by 20 minutes over last year, so I'm very happy with my performance. For the first time, I felt relaxed and confident throughout instead of anxious and jittery. I didn't let anything bother me and I smiled the whole time. 2007 - 2:27:22.50 2008 - 2:07:32.90 Great race atmosphere and lots of volunteers. Tons of first-time triathletes which was exciting. The weather was just perfect, and it was a great time.

  • Comments: This race is so well-run and well-organized, you just can't overstate it. Every athlete is treated like a superstar at this race. I mean, it's huge, so transition is crowded, but what are you going to do? The schwag we got from Aflac was cool: stuffed duck, small sports towel, Hawaiian leis, sponges, etc. They're a great race sponsor.

  • Comments: I love this race and hope to do it *every* year as long as I am able! My time from last year was a huge improvement. Last year I was 2:04:50 so 6 minutes and change taken off ... a better swim (though still not as good as the first year) ... a minute or so off the bike, two minutes off the run and good transitions. I need to get better in T1 but part of that is constantly having eye issues. So, for next year the swim is my focus yet again. I'm really getting tired off focusing on the swim!!

  • Comments: I had done one small tri earlier this year and this was my "big" race. It was truly amazing. Lots of participants, tons of spectators including lots of kids rooting on their Moms. Everyone is positive and encouraging.

  • Comments: I am impressed with how well organized this race was. It was a huge number of people to get through the course. I had read that 60% of the participants were first timers - I think it is very cool that this event could motivate so many to get out and put in the time and effort to make it across the finish line.

  • Comments: I was very nervous coming into this race. One, for the lack of hard training; and two, knowing how hard this race was going to be. To date this was the longest distance for me. I am so extemely pleased with how well I did. My fears of the bike ride were bigger than it actually was. This has been the best and hardest race I've done. I'm so glad that Klynne came and was at the finish to cheer me on! Kevin and the girls were so supportive and was really great to have my mom come and see me finsih so strong. Glad Brenda decided to do this race with me or I would have never registered.

  • Comments: Iron Girl was my first Sprint. It was extremely well run and volunteers were very nice and helpful. Traffic control was very good, although there were a few cars on the bike course from time to time. Not too bad. Columbia Triathlon Association should be applauded for the number of training sessions they held before the race. I will do this one next year!

  • Overall course based on my ability: Too hard

  • Comments: Loved it and had a great time! Smiled and thanked all the volunteers and spectators and cops directing traffic. 50% of the participants entered this as their first triathlon - this was my first since I've been an adult. I had a very hard time with the hills, but that was because I didn't train like I should have. I'm a hill wuss. Great fan support and very organized. I would like to do the race again next year and better my time. Maybe I can convince my daughter to do it with me. She was my photographer today. She and my husband were my cheering section. I will upload pics if they're not too embarassing! :)

  • Comments: Aftermath This report is long enough arreddy, but this event was profound for me, one who didn’t really place overly-much value on a women-only event. I thought that it would be fun, and it was. I thought that I’d enjoy being around my friends, and I did. I also met new tri-folk, including Melissa Merson, with whom I’d shared email about shared challenges. There was so much to be thankful for. From start to finish, this was an incredibly well-organized and well-run event. I really appreciated that Vigo didn't "dumb it down" for "the girls". Oh no. This was a *real triathlon*. Best of all, Coach Debi expertly prepared me for the challenge. With everything that I’ve faced this year, with every vicissitude, Coach Debi adjusted my training schedule and had me ready to go - mentally and physically.

  • Comments: Overall, this was a great race, especially since it was the first year! It was VERY organized and had a lot of volunteers. The expo was great and the giveaways were really good! The two complaints were that my wave was the second to the last to go off and 2) that I couldn't find the post-race food. I would do this race again though....a lot of fun!
