  • Comments: This was a great race. The course is excellent and there is a lot of support along both bike and run portions. The only incident really was the whole helicopter snafu, but that is not the RD's fault. The fact that the place is crawling with BTers doesn't hurt either. I had such a fun time. I'd love to come back again next year.

  • Comments: 2nd yr there...i think its an excellent venue..the bike course was well covered with the local police. Only one intersection did an idiot bolt across and the cops were all over them

  • Comments: I blew my 6:16 1/2 PR out of the water but was dissapointed in the day. I had the fitness for a much fast day but it wasn't in the cards. I think the headache was caused by slapping my head back in the water while sighting, just a hunch though. One more race (Lake Zurich) before Imoo, At least I learned to suffer out there.

  • Comments: I really liked this race. We had good weather and a good time. It got a little hot for me but for the time of year we really did get lucky. I would definately do it again. Maybe the new 101 course.

  • Comments: I was not happy about being given the wrong swim cap but that's probably not rally a bid deal anyway. I am not real happy about my time not showing up. I paid a decent amount of money to be here and if not for my HRM watch I would have no idea on my splits! Despite that this is a large race and I'm sure it's tough to pull off. Lots of long lines of cars at intersections being controlled to let bikers through which I appreciate. One guy looked like he got out of his car and was laying into the officer a bit. Must be frustrating but I thought they did a nice job of controlling traffic and keeping us safe.

  • Comments: Organizationally speaking this is still the best race ever. Lots of volunteers and police everywhere and friendly hose people on Main St. (the run). I wasn't planning to sign up for next year-I expect to have a lot of work commitments - but even on minimal training this year I had a blast, so I might have to rethink that decision :)

  • Comments: Wow, what a great race and race venue. The beach and Lake Michigan are beautiful. The volunteers were amazing. They were everywhere. The people of Racine really embrace this event. If you are looking for an HIM to do in the Midwest, put this one on the calendar.

  • Comments: My only gripe is that they ran out of food... We were discouraged and almost left for a restaurant... when more food appeared! Better planning was needed. It looked as though they went out and raided the local JEWEL. I can't complain, though... I got plenty to eat. Some people left when they heard the food tent had run dry.

  • Comments: Awesome volunteers. I wish there was a better way to thank them other than in passing. Seriously they help us and pick up after us and its just because they want to be out there. Very cool. And props to all the other BTers. Suffering is much more fun in the company of friends.

  • Comments: Overall, I'm totally pleased with my finish time. Going into this, I was going to be happy with anything under 6:30, I thought that 6:15 would be a very realistic goal as long as nothing went too wrong and I was able to race the way I trained (somewhat of a wild card because of the bronchitis), and 6 hours was my pie-in-the-sky goal, everything going absolutely perfect. So - 6:12 made me pretty happy. And let me add -- all the BTer's out on the course was AWESOME!! It's so great to be going along and get a shout out from someone -- really keeps you going! I doubt that I would have attempted a HIM without the peer pressure, but this turned out to be an absolutely wonderful weekend, start to finish.

  • Comments: This was a great race and the number of BTers make it sooo much fun! But the Lake Michigan swim is scary...just because you never know what you're going to get. Had it been as rough as it was during our Saturday practice swim, I probably would have been out there for 1+ hours! You train so hard for a HIM that it's tough to have such an unknown swim conditions. I would love to do this race in the future, but I'll definitely need to get more comfortable in Lake Mich! Other than that, well organized and GREAT venue!

  • Comments: The volunteers and spectators were great. If anything, I would never recommend the swim portion (let alone a 1/2 Tri) to any newbie - I'm just quite lucky that I have some natural ability. A couple of other participants were very nice and offered some wisdom which helped. Plenty of water, Infinit, salt tablets, etc. at the "stops", with very helpful crews. A great race!

  • Comments: Ran out of food at post-race! WTF!! Only thing left was frosted cookies, stale chips ahoy... Came back later and they finally replenished some food supplies but WTF! Should NOT run out of food - and HFP has been doing large events long enough for this NOT to happen...

  • Comments: Ill take 1st place anyday. I took 15 minutes off my last HIM a month ago- so I am pretty happy with this. This was a fun race- although I sort of expected more??? I also qualified for the halfmax nationals... in my AG or Athena- so thats cool.

  • Comments: Overall I think this race is great. The volunteers at the aid station are fantastic. Very attentive and very helpful. Some people were disappointed in no pasta at the finish line but that didn't bother me. ;) The venue is fantastic and people 20 miles out of town in the middle of nowhere have their lawn chairs pulled down the side of the road and are cheering people on as they whizzzz by on their bikes.

  • Comments: The volunteers on course were awesome. Huge police and volunteer presence on the bike course. I don't think a single intersection was unmanned. Post-race, left a bit to be desired. They ran out of food, so when I made it to the food tent after waiting for my friends at the finish, there was only some sugar cookies and bananas left. More did show up, so there were salty chips, muffins, and pbj sandwiches, but nothing that looked really good. Also, I think the field was too big this year, as evidenced by the crowded conditions on the bike. No real climbs to spread things out, so you end up with the packs that are inherent to flat courses. Breaking the waves up might help some, but not sure how much. They are adding a 101 distance next year, so we'll have to see how that plays into things.

  • Comments: Excellent volunteers and great course control, even at the back of the pack. A very well run race. I would have liked to see some other options for food at the finish but overall it was an excellent venue.

  • Comments: Nutrition: Pre race: 4:45 a.m. Ensure, wheat bagel w/pb 5-6:30: Bottle Perpetuem Bike: two bottles Perp, 9 fig newtons, 8 Endurolytes, 1 Hammer Gel at mile 53 Run: Hammer gel at miles 3, 7, and 10, Endurolytes at mile 1, 3, 5, 7, 9, and 11. After: Recoverite. All of my gripes for the swim start were more than fixed this year. Really well organized start with good PA took all the guessing and confusion out of it. Well stocked and staffed aid stations on both the bike and run. Post race food was weak with PBJ, fruit, and drinks. Would have loved a big plate of pasta like they had last year. Don't know if I waited too long to go to the food tent or if they just didn't have pasta this year. Perfect weather for race day. High was 79 degrees so felt warm on the run but not hot. So satisfying to see the training pay off with a 23+ minute improvement from last year which put me just into the top 50% of finishers.

  • Comments: A good race and well organized. The food thing at the end was a little disheartening. I've been to 5k races that have way too much food at the end and then a lot of the tri's or longer distance runs I do, there's not much at all. Wierd. I did the race with my girlfriend who did really well. My parents also came up and it was so nice to have them there to support us. It was an absolutely beautiful day and even though I injured myself and had a terrible run - I did it! I could have stopped after the first run loop. I'm sure that's a debate many people had with themselves. But we did it and we should be proud!

  • Comments: This was a PR for a half ironman by 8:47. Previous best was on this course - 4:46:18 last year here and placed 102 overall. Gotta be happy about that :) Overall AG placing reflects my time versus the 45-49 AG even though I was in the Elite Master wave. Elite wave start prevents an offical AG podium. Only one guy older than me placed higher overall, by 5 minutes (son of a b*tch). I heard a lot of words of encouragement from fellow BT members during the race. THANKS!!!! Hopefully I yelled back something coherent when you did so. Finished the night off with a pint of chocolate Haagen Dazs in my final splurge before the IM WI weight trimming phase.
