  • Comments: This was a great race. It seems like each race I do is better organized. There was great support, a good number of aid stations and good volunteers. The commmunity really came out to cheer as well, which really helped keep you moving. The start was delayed due to fog. When we finally started it was still foggy. I just wish we could have started that hour earlier. It would have made the run easier because some of it would have been before it got so hot. If I decid to do another HIM I will definitely consider this one again. During the run yesterday I swore I would never do this again. However, today I am already looking at ways I could have shaved off more time.

  • Comments: It was an ok race. The swim was short, but an inaccurate swim seems to be par for the course for me this year. The bike course was flat and fast but there were some pretty rough roads and tight corners. The run was beautiful, especially when you were overlooking Lake Michigan. The start was delayed but there was that was obviously a safety issue with the fog. The expo wasnt great (I was very confused when i got to the aisle that contained all the boats... I guess the hall was double booked?) I may do this race again, but i may try some closer to home next year(like IMKS 70.3) We will just have to see what next year looks like

  • Comments: ALthough this race seemed slightly less well organized than it has in previous years, it's still the best run I've participated in yet.

  • Comments: Course is nice, volunteers are the BEST (all over the place, and incredibly helpful, friendly and supportive!) and there are plenty of aid stations along the course. The downsides -- the website is difficult to navigate and find any kind of information, they didn't even tell us when transition opened, expo was difficult to find, and overall organization seemed to be lacking this year. Overall, it's a good race, though, and if I were to do another HIM, I'd consider it.

  • Comments: Definitely the event was a little under-staffed, but the volunteers that were in attendance did a GREAT job! Weather - what can you do? Plan out the swim course more accurately, but I won't complain about my time! Hopefully, fellow participants will provide additional comments to the HFP and see if the race can improve for next year since there were a number of less than positive feedback. Thank Lucy for "being there" with me.

  • Comments: competitive field, flat course...dunno, on the fence with this. i will be back to kick its azz probably next year, but cant decide if the course was anything special. my previous halves were high cliff and lake geneva which had some hillies (more my strength vs flats), but I suppose racing on all different stuff makes ya better all around or something deep like that?

  • Comments: I was really thanking my lucky stars I finished, but the fact they ran out of the finisher's medals put a dent in my feelings. I wonder, did people take more than one medal, like for the kids maybe, or they did not anticipate that many people finishing the race? Mind boggles. Oh, apparently according to the official results I did not start (among 400 others!!!). Maybe it was all a dream?

  • Comments: delayed an hour (maybe 1:30), but it was due to fog. they almost canceled the swim! lots of volunteers at water stations and police at traffic stops. lots of people just watching from their front yards, which i thought was cool. good food at the end, even though i didn't feel like eating much, the family ate mine for me!

  • Comments: good consistent race for me with pretty good pacing all the way around. swim went way better than expected and bike was also faster than i thought i could do. cant really complain about the run as my run training has been weak and i still did pretty well until the last 5k. great race and im pumped to break 5 :) congrats to everyone who finished and rocked that sucker! now its ironman time baby!

  • Comments: I think a slower bike split (just south of 20mph) would have resulted in my 1:50 goal run. I PR'd every split and took 40 mins out my previous PR on the course and at the distance. Very happy overall and next year we're going 4:55- book it :)

  • Comments: really liked this race... it seems like an 'easy' half.. (kindah an oxy-moron).. but its a FAST RACE for sure. Wouldn't mind doing it again.. but the drive is 6 hrs.. and the price of gas..well you know.. It was a great litmus test for me.. need to concentrate on nutrition planning , mental games, and bike-run legs.. most likely between now and IM Moo.. Black HILLS here i come (NEXT!). Oh.. this was a PR for me.. by a whole 2.5 minutes..if only I kicked the run.. I'm pretty certain I could bring this down to 5:30 easily.

  • Comments: overall fun day -- had a great time with the donkey's and BT group... I was hoping to finish in 6:30, and finishing at 5:57 was a great surprise. THIS WAS A PR BY OVER 1 HOUR AND 15 MINUTES, so I'm cool with that - but I am thinking it may be a little while before I am able to match this one.. A little upsetting is that I thought that a 6 hour for a 1/2 IM was a pretty good race, only to find out that I STILL finished 144/166 in my age group... just destined to be a BOP I guess.... though I'm o.k. with that.. I had a lot of fun. Great support from racers as well as spectators from BT, donkey nation, and others (the donkey jersey tends to get a lot of comments - which is nice and motivating)

  • Comments: As always, HFP ran a very well-organized, professional race. If I had a gripe, it's that the post-race meal is lacking, but that's being really picky. They were also on the verge of running out of supplies at the aid stations when I finished, so I doubt they had enough for those behind me. The big thing was that results were not posted online until late Monday night. That's really not good and I can only think there must have been some sort of snafu uploading them. Overall, though, HFP rocks.

  • Comments: Can't fault the race for the weather. even though it was a pain to delay the start, I glad they did. Overall, I'm please with my performance and my time for my first HIM. I persevered through a rough swim and didn't give up (although it did cross my mind at one point in the freak out) But I didn't and finished feeling great!

  • Comments: Pretty good. I don't like that the swim course was off, but I heard they had to move the buoys in b/c of the colder water which was further out. However, the could have lengthened it. Overall, they do a pretty good job. Even if they never posted what time the transition would open and close.

  • Comments: Awesome race! I got to see Schmize and jzat during the race. I did not recognize anyone else. I was pretty focused. About a week ago Schmize said it was on like Donkey Kong. So I would like to point out that I beat him in the swim and the bike. Oh yeah baby!! I guess those 4:30AM rides really paid off.

  • Comments: The fog at the start was unfortunate, but uncontrollable. Otherwise I thought the event was well run. On the way to work this AM I was thinking about all the logistics to put on this type of an event....site prep, racer registrations, expo set-up, course management (working with many different jursidictions), food, medical support, volunteer recruiting and management, and on.... I note these things, as I believe, on balance, this was a well-run event. I have already seen some complaining about some disorganization (e.g. lack of rack numbers in transition, crowded packet pick-up, crowded expo site, etc.). I believe these issues were real and the issues were probably preventable, nevertheless, for the magnitude of the endeavor, the things that went right far outweighed the things that did not.

  • Comments: Now, official race results have data that is entirely different than what I have posted. When I check my bike in, the assigned timing chip for my number was gone. Somebody must have gotten it by mistake. They gave me a different chip and made note of it but I'm thinking they never made a change. I'm trying to work that out. Either was I was still 2nd out of the old fat guy division (225+lbs, 40+ age) but when they gave me the new chip I knew this would probably happen. I thought the bike course seemed much more crowded than last year for some reason. With lots of DNS's I'm surprised at that but I guess they could maybe have more waves to even things out? I don't care on the run in fact it's a lot of fun but the bike it is just dangerous and almost downright impossible not to draft. Post race food was much better than last year with a tasty pork sandwich. The hour delay was annoying but my understanding is that it wasn't the race directors decision but the Coast Guard instead
