  • Comments: Great race, very well organized, volunteers are awesome, lots of station aids one every Kilometer on the run!!! that's more than 20!! and they had all kinds of things; lots of very cold bags of water, lots of ice, gatorade, pepsi, orange and bananas, pretzels, you name it!!! And the volunteers, mostly young kids were AWESOME! Flat al surfaces, bike is kind of isolated but the run is packed with people cheering. My only problem (big one) is that it was too hot and humid. I was actually shocked at how bad I felt on the run....... bummer. But I would definitely recommend this race to anybody. Good training for IMFL, first international race, got to share the experience of a Colombian Pro Triathlete and learned a lot. He was fifth (overtaken in the last 2 miles, lost podium).

  • Comments: With the exception of a couple "nit-picky" critiques (the speedsuit, compression sleeve, and distance marker comments) this was a very well RUN race, that has potential to be quite fast (if you train in consistently HOT weather). A special shout out to the volunteers. Essentially they were a bunch of high-school age kids, and while normally I would view this as a potentially bad thing, they did an absolutely FANTASTIC job. One young man actually ran my buddy down with ice after the volunteers couldn't have it to him by the time he ran through the aide station!

  • Comments: this race explains how frustrating this 2008 racing season was. I just never was able to get into good racing shape due to my leg injury and it made for a frustrating year. Oh well, time to relax, recover, heal and focus on coming back stronger than ever next year... I WILL :)

  • Comments: If you want a fun heat challenged race, I would recommend it.I rated it hard because the heat was overwhelming. Most athletes I talked to had their worst race times and walked most of the run. There are almost no spectators so be prepared to be self motivated. The best is post race at the swim up bar with fellow athletes in scenic Cancun. The host hotel is very nice but expensive due to extra fees and food expenses. I had a good experience and was able to mentally force myself to perform through the heat. For a first 70.3 however,....try something a bit cooler.

  • Comments: Great volunteers, well stocked and numerous aid stations. Chip seal road (ugh), no bathrooms on the run (!). I wouldn't do this race again, simply because I can't train for the climate, but for those who are acclimated to heat and humidity it's a pretty well run race.

  • Comments: I QUALIFIED FOR CLEARWATER! No rolldown, nothin! 12 slots were allocated in my AG and I earned one of em. To say I'm EXTREMELY happy with the result is an understatement. I had no idea what to expect in my first HIM. I had planned on a 5:21 finish and would've been real happy with 5:10. When I came across at 4:55 and change I couldn't believe it. Now it's time to take a couple days off. Easy spin and run on the weekend and start getting ready for Clearwater! If you're considering this race. I'd recommend it. It's a great way to combine a vacation and a race. The volunteers were great. The race wasn't perfect, but few, if any are. If my schedule permits next year I'll be back.

  • Comments: I don't know if I'd race this one again, there were things that I didn't like too much about this race. There weren't enough volunteers, they ran out of water on the bike, ran out of water and ice on the run, and had no port-o-potties on the bike or run. However, I will say this.....we got tons of stuff at this race. A race bag, a fleece embroidered with the Cancun 70.3 logo, a waterbottle, finishers shirts, and a medal. I was overly enthused about all of this stuff!!!!!! The best part of this race was meeting up with Jeff (ajax1868) and his crew-Kati, Natalie, Tim, Tori, and Tiger. They were so much fun, and it was great to meet up with fellow BT'ers out there and have that extra support on the course. I look forward to seeing that whole crew in IM AZ next spring!!!!!
