  • Comments: I couldn't be happier with how I paced this race. Not only were the splits negative (except the 1st run, which was only a bit faster) but if I compare my percentile ranking among all women, it tells quite a story: For the three run segments, it went from 7th percentile to 19th to 30th; for the bike segments it went from 19th to 35th percentile. Even for transitions, it went from 32nd percentile to 44th to 56th to 51st. For a race in which 75% of the women were under 50, I think that's very satisfactory overall. Only Barb M & I were over 60, and I beat her for the first time of 3 attempts. She's a world-class competitor in the 70+ AG, but she seemed to have just had a bad race day. Except for the helmet on backwards I had as good a race as I could have had on this day, given my training to date.

  • Overall course based on my ability: Too hard

  • Comments: It's a tough, challenging race but distinctive and fun. Would be scary in the rain. Not too many older women do it: only 3 in their 50's, myself (67), and one 70. The latter was in my AG last year and beat me by 7 minutes. If I hadn't gone off course, I would have beat her this year, or at least been neck-and-neck. So there's that; also, we became friends.

  • Comments: I hope they continue to host this race as it will always be one that I will continue to do. The venue is incredible and the format is challenging, but not too difficult. Maybe next year I can do better!

  • Comments: The post race food was lame as they were running our of food by the time we walked over. The girls and Bill were working the finish line so were the last ones to leave. The bugs around the area also made us want to leave early. Very unique race and I would recomend giving it a chance. I will be there again in '10

  • Comments: It was great that Yhoshi and the boys came. I got to see them almost every lap bike and run. Mike was at the bike at off track exit so I had a great cheering section. Yoshi was put off by the lead guys as they didn't care or aknowledge any cheering for them at all. They left before most athletes finished. When it get to be that intense to get a plaque or ribbon give it up and go back to work. Remember the fans and the volunteers. You can't be that wrapped up in the race to not enjoy it. If anything derails this sport it will be the lack of caring by the elite athletes for the fans and novice Tri'er. Don't get me wrong lots of the elite athletes care, but after volunteering it wasn't until 10-15 riders went by, the leaders, until one thanked us or aknowledge our cheering.
