  • Comments: Overall I had a good race and I'm glad I tried out this venue. It did feel very "rural" though as the Athlete village was small and the bike loops were very boring. Lots of volunteers and the aids stations were great. As much as I liked this race, I probably will not come here again.

  • Comments: Muncie is a fine race, but I didn't expect it to be SO rural. There's nothing out there (other than crops and livestock)! Not that it was all that bad, but USATF also held an event that weekend. I talked to a USATF official that stated there were over 1000 athletes + their families competing in the same weekend. No wonder lodging had been so hard to get! It was also one of the most bare bones IM 70.3s I've ever seen. Not many booths/stands and the music was only really audible from the transition area. I will admit that the food was nice, and they had ice cream for all the athletes! I enjoyed this race, but I don't think I'll go back.

  • Comments: My first 70.3! This was a great race. The volunteers were great. The fans were awesome - I got goose bumps and a little choked up running down the finisher chute as several hundred people I didn't know cheered for me. I will definitely do this race again.

  • Comments: Muncie puts on a very good race! the transition and finish area is in a park that is very family friendly. The only downside is that it's nearly impossible for spectators that are coming in later to actually get there. The food at the finish was just ok, but personally I really wanted a beer and they didn't have any. Overall, as always, I have yet to find anyone that compares to an Ironman branded event. At the end of the day, you really do get what you pay for. Ironically, as much as I really liked this race, I don't know that I would do it again. This sounds bad, but the reason is that the conditions I had were as good as they'll ever be in Muncie and I would have a hard time comparing future performances to this one because of the unseasonably cool weather we had.

  • Comments: Great race, venue, staff and volunteers. Did this race last year and bombed the run. Came back this year for redemption and I got it. PRed the race course by almost 40 minutes. Very pleased with how this went. Thanks to my coach Mo and team Playtri. I started with coach after last years race and we made a huge improvement since then...40 minutes!! I'll take it :)

  • Comments: This is a really well run race. Great aid stations, (13 and well stocked all day) the best post race food I've ever had, especially for an IM event, and fun but challenging course. The bike was too crowded for my liking lap two, but still a blast to ride, and the run was tough and challenging but not over the top crazy hard. Of course, had it been a typical Muncie hot/humid day, that run would have really sucked! We had perfect weather which was so nice to race in. Raced with lots of Fraser, ATCK, FAST and EN teammates and friends, and yeah, that always makes the day for me no matter the outcome. But it helps when the outcome only a minute or so off of your PR with cruddy training! Gives me hope for IMCHOO!!!

  • Comments: Ironman puts on a great race. The volunteers were absolutely great. There were plenty of aid stations on the bike and the run. My only criticism is the road conditions, which are simply terrible throughout the midwest. This race was really well run.

  • Comments: Really one of the best races I have done. It was significantly better in 2014 than it was in 2011. I will definitely come back and do this again. If you are looking for a great HIM, this definitely meets the bill.

  • Comments: Fantastic volunteers. They had almost more volunteers than racers! Great support. Overall happy to complete my first 70.3 but disappointed in my run. Trained to run 10-11minute miles and completely fell apart on the hills

  • Comments: Great event and very well run. Lots of enthusiastic volunteers and everyone was so awesome that I couldn't even be frustrated with the bike snafus. Beautiful rural course and we were really lucky that the weather cooperated. This was my first 70.3 and the common question is am I going to step up and do a full one. I have no doubt that I could do it if I dedicated myself to training for one, I just dont know if I'm ready for that part. Not only did I have to make a commitment for this race, my family had to contribute quite a bit of their time for this as well. Every athlete that competes in these has a support crew behind the scenes that makes it possible and I'm no different. For now I'm going to enjoy not missing the 4am alarm that is telling me to get up and get in the pool.

  • Comments: Great race - lots of spectator & volunteer support. I could do without the hideous 6 miles to and from the highway on the bike, but otherwise no complaints.

  • Comments: The volunteers were great! I love small local races too, but you just get so much energy and excitement at these larger races. The volunteers make an event within an event with music at aid stations, games, water hoses, etc and just keep you so motivated. I have not done a lot of Ironman branded races but the ones I have were all very good. Muncie puts on a great race.

  • Comments: Nice race. Well organized. They need to re-evaluate the bike course (re no passing zone) but it is really fast on rt35. Great volunteers and aid stations were well stocked. PR by 6min 8sec....but still 14 sec to take off so I can get under 5:30.

  • Comments: This was my 1st Half distance Tri, so I have nothing to go on. The VOLUNTEERS WERE AMAZING!! If they werent there, I would have been out of the race before I finished. They ROCKED!! The race director and all of his people, GREAT job!! The competitors that I talked to, AMAZING as well. EVERYONE wanted EVERYONE to FINISH! Its like a brotherhood that Im now proud to be a member of!! THANK YOU to my wife, Shawna. My kids. My mother. My Inlaws. Friends Chris and Amanda. Thank you all for the support and love you gave. As a crazy 44 year old that decided to do something like this, I could NOT have done it without you all. Craig...WOOT!!!

  • Overall course based on my ability:

  • Comments: The race was well organized, well run, and staffed with great volunteers. However, if this new bike course layout doesn't change I doubt I will be back. I would expect better quality pavement on the roads in my local sprint, which costs roughly 1/5 the $ and has 1/6 the registered participants.

  • Comments: The bike course will live as a horrible memory for this race. I have ridden one course that compares to this one and it was a sprint. Kewpee in 2012 was on very fresh chip and sealed roads. It was rough but not bone jarring like this course was. Ironman NEEDS to change this course! • Comments: Should be happy that I walked away from this race with a PR but am still not satisfied with my 70.3 performance. I know I can run a better half marathon. Need to really work on my nutrition next year. As far as the Ironman brand race, was very impressed with the whole experience. Would definitely pay for an Ironman brand race again. As I sit here 2 days after the race with the soreness and pain fading I am now seriously thinking about either Wisconsin or Louisville for next year.

  • Comments: The rough section of the bike was absolutely horrible. It was hard to hang on and feel comfortable and it was a long stretch of the race. The rest of the race was awesome. It is a very flat and fast course, you will see that in the bike times. Because of this, there was a lot of drafting because people literally could not possibly put the required space between. Volunteers were awesome at every station, kids, adults, everyone! Stations were well stocked til the end. Rating of 4 only because of the rough part of the bike.
