  • Overall course based on my ability:

  • Comments: I give this an above average experience since I made an out of state race happen, rented a bike, swam in Lake Michigan, and had a few good take aways. The event was very well organized, friendly volunteers, nice dry-fit race shirt, and solid post race party.

  • Overall course based on my ability: Too easy

  • Comments: The course is pancake flat (both bike and run). My biggest gripe was the condition of the roads on the bike. If they don't get that fixed somebody is going to get hurt. The other issue is that it is over a mile walk from the cars to transition. My friends with kids were not happy about that as walking with a 3 year old at 5:30am for a mile is not fun. They said there were shuttle buses, but we didn't see any. However, the post race food spread almost makes up the above issues. It is a good local race and well organized. If you are looking for a beginner race this would be a good one (assuming they fix the bike course).

  • Comments: This is a great race. It's billed as a Sprint Distance event but with an 800 meter swim, and a 4 mile run, it's on the longer side of most of the sprints in the Chicago area. It's a great opportunity to hit a Sprint event with some longer sections.

  • Comments: Very organized. Great volunteers/civil servants. A lot of the course was through industrial areas but that's ok. Wasn't there to sight see. Some extremely rough spots on bike course (my only complaint) but they marked them with orange spray paint. Hopefully they will patch those areas up some day. Looking forward to next year!

  • Comments: Capri Events puts on a good race. Yes - the access roads were bad, but that's the city, not Capri Events. My hometown race basically - 10 minutes to the course - so I'll probably keep trying to find this race on my schedule!

  • Comments: With all the rushing around and equipment issues I felt like this was a good effort "overall". Definitely learned quite a few additional lessons from this one to add to the experience bin. Hopefully with training, I can overcome the run start cramping issue. Doing warm-up Olympic on 8/10 and hope to work out the kinks so the 8/24 Olympic is done efficiently. Results: http://onlineraceresults.com/race/view_individual.php?make_printabl...

  • Comments: Overall, an enjoyable race that I'm really glad I did. And as with my two previous races, it was a learning experience and a great motivator. I'm eager for my next race--Accenture Chicago in late August. Although I'm toying with the Oly distance Bangs Lake tri Aug. 10. We'll see.

  • Comments: I really enjoyed the race and would do it again. It was very well organized and well supported. Great raffle prizes at the post race picnic. I used this race as a practice for my first Oly in August and am very happy with my performance and an looking forward to the next one.

  • Comments: I know this is nit-picky, but I didn't get a t-shirt!!! I registered months ago and was told at packet pickup that all the shirts were taken by the last minute entries. I wish these events would order more than enough t-shirts instead of what they did here. I was really looking forward to wearing my shirt proudly during this week and now they tell me that they will "mail the shirt"...I paid over $75 for entry into this triathlon and I didn't get a t-shirt. Also, the swag bag was laughable. Two catalogs and a water bottle....are you kidding me? Where is all our money going? Nonetheless, I had a blast at this race and I am glad I did it!!! It was a great warm-up for the Chicago triathlon. I feel a lot better about doing the Chicago triathlon now, since I will be doing an Olympic distance triathlon in the end of August. I will continue to train and refine my abilities as a triathlete. What an awesome sport!!!!!!! My next triathlon is in Naperville, so I hope to see some Beginnertriathlete.com

  • Comments: The course distance and level made for a good first triathlon. Because of the boring course, however, make this race something I wouldn't necessarily be concerned to do again.

  • Comments: Very well run event. There was plenty of help on the course and it was a very clean course. Everything went off on time. The course itself is not very scenic and the road for the bike portion is pretty rough. The swim is ok and the run is just kinda there. Well runevent overall.

  • Comments: Although I had a good time and the race was well organized, I've got a few beefs. No race day packet pick up sucked, and the fact that the packet pick-ups weren't any where near the race local wasn't great either. It's an awful race for spectators... specifically my wife and 2 young kids. She had to push the 2 kids, carry their loads of crap over a mile to get to the race. Throwing that on top of the bonehead losing the ring on my part, made this a less than enjoyable race experience. I also thought the roads were real rough and as far as scenary goes, this would rank near the bottom. Most of the race was through an industrial area. Anyway, I always enjoy racing so I had fun, but it really makes me appreciate the state park more family friendly races in Iowa and smaller communites.

  • Comments: Despite my above-mentioned issues in transition, the obscene temperature, and that this wasn't an "A" level race for me, I felt I did an ok job. I felt good afterwards and the next day. Plus the course support and the after picnic was awesome.

  • Comments: Great post race party. Met up with Laura and Marcie. One complaint- venue too far from parking. Had to push my son in the stroller all the way. At least there was a bus to go back to parking. Need a few more buses, one doesn't cut it. Next year I plan on doing this race myself.

  • Comments: Ill never call it "just" a sprint tri. Need to be mentally tougher. Heat is killer. Will definitly need to have hydration and nutrition plan for OLY. Need to wear / buy a tri-suit for oly. If i take away 13 minutes for tire change...would have been in top half of my age group.

  • Comments: The volunteers were outstanding, much thanks to them. Thanks also to Waukegan Fire and Police for all the support, they were great as well. I was impressed with the way this race was run, the actual events were very organized and outstanding. My biggest complaint is the way they handled getting to the actual event. No parking anywhere near the race, no bike drop offs, it sucked. To have to lug a heavy bag and a bike 2 miles in 100 degree heat after running a triathlon is brutal. It's really a small thing to nitpick though. I had a great time and will do this race again for sure.

  • Comments: Post-race picnic was good -- nice spread. Lots of raffle prizes as well, though I didn't win anything. Fairly well organized, I thought. Lots of volunteers. Two downsides: the first was no race day packet pickup - very inconvenient for those of us on the other side of the city. The second was that there really could have been an earlier start. 8am in the middle of the summer is TOO LATE! Start at least by 7am to mitigate some of the heat.
