  • Comments: The most annoying thing was waiting for race results. I thought I'd see them posted online by Saturday night. It was days and then the splits were messed up. Some folks didn't get any. For me, I didn't have swim or T1 splits. Also, the overall ranking included relays, which I didn't think was right. The race forum was full of complaints about the timing mess-ups. New timing company, first race of the season, apparently... My goals were: finish without injury. finish under 2 hours, aiming at 1:45. don't finish last overall or in my age group. don't fall over stuck to the damn pedals ride not walk most of the hills. I made all my goals! I finished at 1:53. If I hadn't gotten my shirt stuck in T1 and spent 5 minutes wrestling with it, I think I would have nailed my 1:45 estimate.

  • Comments: I'm too new at this to really form an opinion. NOTE - Speedy Feet had my split times posted but now they are gone. So, my times are based off of memory from a few days ago when the times were actually posted.

  • Comments: Goodie bag was a bit of a dissapointment. The organizers lost the split time data, the TA was a bit crowded. On the other hand, things moved well, and it was a lot of fun. I would change some things, but mostly with my own performance.

  • Comments: I liked the set up. The pool was nice. It was nice not to have to worry about bib numbers. I beat my primary goal (setting an overall PR) by three minutes. I placed pretty well. My run was my fastest and it didnt hurt at all. The bike performed well. The split issue is irritating but I will get over it. It was nice to race without a watch. I think I prefer wave starts because there was jsut 50 seconds separating places 4-8. Just because no one is in front of you doesnt mean no one is in front of you.

  • Comments: My favorite song to run to is War Zone by Rob Zombie. "In the War Zone I stand alone/ In the War Zone I die alone " Brut said it best at lunch, "Run your own race". Today was about finding my own way. I was frustrated at my performance but I'm happy that I finished. I thought I would do better but I learned the hard way. I am looking forward to racing this race next year. Today it won and I just tried to not DNF. I will say I am frustrated by the timing company- for some reason even though there was only ONE Athena category to register in, the results had me listed as Athena4XL. Quite frustrating on several levels since I have no swim, T1 or bike times AND I finished last in my category. If I was in the regular Athenas I would not have finished last- BOP but not last. The shit was bananas. Blah. I just ran and now I'm hungry and cranky. Fud now pls!

  • Comments: NO RACE SPLITS. Post race activities -A kroger bag with a banana and crackers? Lopsided transition area. Lots of tight turns in the 5k. Traffic not controlled in bike. What was going on at the start of the swim? i'm not really into riding a king of the mountains event. Mile markers either missing or not clear. To be fair to the event i may be taking my attitude/peformance to my overall race rating. The positives didn't have anything to do with what the race org did: I learned some things and friends were there. I doubt I'll do this race again.

  • Comments: I’ve crunched the numbers. I came in 107 of 587 finishers and over 600 starters. That means that of the finishers I was in the top 18.2%, of the starters it was >17.8%. I PR’ed the course by 8:12, a 9.7% improvement over last year and 15.9% the year before. I missed the top 15% by 3.2% or 19 places. I would have had to finish in less then 1:14:55 or 1:29 faster to be in 88th place and have made the top 15%. Thinking about it I don’t know where I could have cut 89 seconds. I was red lining my HR the entire way. As dead as my legs are today (the day after) I know I pushed it just as hard as I could. I think the keys for next year will be to improve my climbing on the bike and improve my run. I’ve squeezed just about all I can out of my swim, but there is still plenty of room for improvement in my run and bike. I’d also like to get down to 190lbs, 12 lbs lighter then I am now. So I think next years goals are: 1.) Get that sub 40 min bike split. 2.) Run a sub 25 min 5k. 3.) Finish under

  • Comments: The race was very well organized and the location was beautiful. I love my Marshall University, but I gotta say, Miami has one of - if not the most - beautiful campuses I've ever seen. It is important to note that in my first tri, I came in 207/217 overall and 40/42 in my AG. At the next tri, I came in 195/197 overall and 23/23 in my AG. So, considering I came in 498/585 overall and 49/56 in my AG at this race, I'm pretty pleased overall.
