  • Overall course based on my ability: Just right

  • Comments: Good race. Really a "no frills" type of thing, but everything was professionally done, on time and methodical. Quite a challenging course do to the wind on the bike and the run course itself. Being my first tri I really have no points of reference, but I had a great time!

  • Comments: We arrived at the packet pickup at 2pm (Packet pick up was from 2-8) and no one was there. They arrived around 2:30. There was a mandatory bike inspection and they did not arrive until 3:30. There was also a mandatory meeting that was scheduled right in the middle of dinner time. It was a little frustrating! Overall the actual race was well organized but the packet pick-up could have been better organized!

  • Overall course based on my ability: Too hard

  • Comments: I think that was the hardest Olympic race I have ever done. However, it's a very small race (less than 150 people) and it's run by one of my favorite race directors (love him or hate him- Jack Weiss). I am glad that I did the race and very excited that I got a trophy for second in my AG but I don't know if I would go back. It's a 3.5 hour drive from Austin, it's hot, it's windy, the bike course was rough with long sections directly into the wind and the run was just brutal. I know the race is known for the "Dirt road from Hell" but what they don't tell you is that dirt road is over some pretty tough hills. There is practically no post race activities but the race site is a nice place and we really enjoyed the company we were with. Who knows, maybe I will go back to see if I can knock off the 1st place guy...

  • Comments: Registration did not start on time. About 15 minutes late. Mandatory bike inspection started about an hour too late, which put a damper on our plans. Mandatory pre-race meeting the night before race started right during dinner time and was about 10 minutes delayed. But, overall this a good race and I would recommend it. Just make sure you wear tinted goggles because the last half of the swim goes directly into the sun, which makes it hard to spot.
