Our next Beginner Triathlete of the Month is Steve Birds, aka SWBKRUN. A cherished member of BT, his Spring 2009 mentor group is now over 200 pages long of questions and answers helping out other beginners.

"Steve Bird (Birdy) deserves it more than anyone I can think of. Not only is he a great athlete, he is a great mentor. I have been in his mentor group for the last two rounds and he inspires and encourages our entire group daily. When he doesn't have an answer he searches out an expert for nutritional, gear or other advice.

He had the perseverance to finish Boise 70.3 in torrential downpours and hail with a smile on his face and recently did a Livestrong ride in similar conditions to raise money for a cause he believes in.

I would not be where I am today if it wasn't for Steve. I was incredibly wishy-washy over doing a HIM this summer and he gave me the gentle nudge to do it.

I know everyone of our group feels the same about him."
