Hi! My name is Jen. I'm 24 yrs old and in my 1st year of medical school at Indiana University. I've been running for about 5 years and I recently competed in a duathlon which sparked my interest in training for a tri! So I have been teaching myself to swim with the help of a friend who has completed an Ironman and am extremely excited to get going in the 2005 season. I hope to compete in Illinois and Indiana, maybe Ohio too. I'd like to meet some virtual training buddies and get good advice on whatever I have gotten myself into!

Hi Jen: Nice to meet you! I'm young also, 22 yrs old, just graduated from University of Fla. My boyfriend is actually in his second year of med school in Ft. Lauderdale. So I know what kinds of time restraints you guys have. That's really amazing that you are going to train for tri's being in med school- awesome!

Keep up the great work and hope to see you around here on BT. Don't be afraid to ask any "dumb" questions- we all do it! Best of luck with your training!

Hi Koalabear,

I'm a Boilermaker (GO BOILERS!).. (Class of 2000)

OK, but that aside I'm actually a Singaporean who's residing in Singapore right now and I'm completely new to the tri as well -- pretty much in the same category as you in terms of being a newbie. I'm very likely to visit Indy in May 2005. Would you have an idea if there'll be any multisport event during the first 2 weeks of May? If there is, I don't mind trying the tri in Indy! Perhaps you could join me too - don't worry, we'll not compete for the Old Oaken Bucket - it'll be a friendly 'personal endeavor'.

Actually I am registered for the Indy Mini Marathon for the 1st weekend in May...it's one of the absolute best half marathons,  Very flat, TONS of spectators, good organization, music on the course, and you get to run a lap around the Indy speedway.   I've run this one twice and highly recommend it, for 1st timers as well as veterans.   Here's the website:

Singapore, eh?  I was there a couple years ago for the Singapore Olympic Academy...great experience!

Welcome to the family; lots of good info. and people here to motivate and inspire on those days you just don't want to train. And, I have to agree with Ron - there is no way out - but it is a good thing. This site is the best!
