Champion 8903 | Subject: RE: End of the Season Goals....post 'em here... I felt I accomplished all my goals this season. I found out I COULD do a triathlon. And despite some early season doubts, especially during runs, where I was wondering if I'd ever be able to complete a half Ironman, I DID do it and was mighty happy. And I found a bunch of new friends here, and even got to meet 4 of them...how cool is that? Thanks Ellen, Evelyn, Sarah (and husband Ryan) and Julie. Hmm, 4 women...think my wife is getting suspicious?? So I guess it's looking ahead to my 2005 goals: 1. Continue training over the winter and early spring to specifically improve my running, build a solid base, and be able to run a steady pace at 10 minutes per mile or better at the end of a triathlon. 2. My swim time is currently 37 minutes for 1.2 miles, or around 1:15 / 1:20 for the Ironman distance (figuring in a slower pace for the longer distance). I'd like to bring that down 5-10 minutes before next summer, hoping to complete the IM swim in 1:10. 3. Be able to run at least 20 miles before next summer, without stopping. 4. Finish the Lake Placid NY, Ironman USA next July 24th. Will be my first Ironman, at age 57. Just finishing will be wonderful, but I have a secret desire to break 13 hours...it all comes down to the run. 5. Get a wicked cool Ironman tattoo! |

Why didn't I think of them? I have a Suunto dive computer and underwater compass that I'm very pleased with. Didn't realise that they made stuff that works in air Thanks for the tip. -Frank |

Expert 774 England | Subject: RE: End of the Season Goals....post 'em here... After a mixed 2004 season where I achieved some goals - the turning up and racing most of the time goals, but not making some others - the how fast will I complete them goals, I already have a few set: 1. 'A' race will be the London Triathlon Oly on 7th Aug (already paid and entered ) 2. Complete an Oly in < 3hrs (pref the above race where its a flat but very busy race) 3. Complete my local sprints <1hr 15 4. Compete in both the local 3 race sprint tri series (ie 6 sprints from Apr-Aug 05) It would also be great if I could finally combine one of my numerous trips to California with a tri, and race an American warm weather race..... This thread made me do some serious thinking: (I will post my goals tomorrow) I did some calculating in excell and discovered, if I lose only 1 kg BF and gain 1/2 kg lean mass EACH month, starting from 33% and 72 kg, that in theory I need less then a year to develop the body composition of my wildest dreams... it is crazy... this thread is GREAT! |

My Long Term Goals for next year are: Compete in and Finish at least 2 Sprint and 2 Olympic distance triathlons, posting progressively better times. I have no idea which races they'll be. So in the off season, the plan is: November thru April Base building. Participate in a local run series, weekly spinning classes, swim 2x per week, A little more strength training. May - June two tris July - August two tris Fall - a half marathon |

Expert 751 Texarkana, TX | Subject: RE: End of the Season Goals....post 'em here... My goals for this season were: 1) Enjoy the sport - that meant racing and training. I have surely accomplished that. 2) Finish well at the Olympic-length race in July - I was third among Clydesdales; finished in 2:42. Coulda been faster if I could swim open water like in the pool. 3) Finish Half IM on 12-Sep. Of course I have amended that one to be finish in good time and maybe place in the Clydesdale category again. But unless something unforeseen occurs, I get this one done as well. I don't have a HILL in mine like Tom does. So that brings us to next year. Currently, my athletic career is 31 weeks and 3 days - that's the time until Ironman Arizona. After my race next weekend, I will get a 4-week offseason before beginning my IM training program on 11-Oct. So at the current time, I have only one goal for next year: 1) Complete Ironman Arizona on 9-Apr-05. I will be ecstatic no matter what time I cross the finish line, However, I would love to finish sometime before the sun goes down. Now as for this: max - 2004-09-01 6:13 AM 5. Get a wicked cool Ironman tattoo! That is on my list as well. I just have to a) talk one of my IM buddies into it as well and b) talk my sweet wife into it. |

I haven't done any racing whatsoever since July (developed ITBS), so this will actually be my season! |

Master 1902 Berkeley, CA | Subject: RE: End of the Season Goals....post 'em here... But seriously... I'm with Nancy on this one: 1. Not make a complete boob out of myself doing the Providian Relay with crpadiem and 10 other people...a 2 day, 36 leg relay race from Calistoga to Santa Cruz. I'll be running 3 legs in the 5-7 mile range in 36 hours. I'd like to average a 10 min. mile and not die. 2. To enjoy myself a great deal at the BT (annual?) Mock-Tri, October 16 3. To increase my cadence and mph (to 16 mph) over the fall and winter. Just me, my bike, the bike trainer and reality tv at its worst in the attic. 4. Meet Lara_SD and have a meal with her. 5. Continue to shed pounds Next year's A races: Wildflower Olympic Vineman (1/2 IM) D |

Wait patiently for Oct 9th to get here for my first Tri 4. Give it hell on Oct 9th. 5. Start preparing for the Memphis in May Tri (Oly) 2005 6. Decide which Half-IM to do next year 7.
