I've never actually worn a wetsuit so I don't know how to compare a bareback swim to a wetsuit swim. Call me crazy. LOL

How cold was that water?

Water was 71o. Did I mention I didn't wear goggles either? Told ya I'm tough. Tough and disorganized; I inadvertently left them in our condo.

I don't own a wetsuit, don't believe in them. However, I have a wimpy condition called a chest cough that crops up everytime I'm in cold water or cold air blasts my chest; the cough lingers for about 2 weeks. So, I've given up my anti-wetsuit bigotry and am going to buy a shorty wetsuit in January. I'll be wimpy swimmer then. *weeping*

There is a possibility I could be talked out of buying a wetsuit (hint, hint). Everyone on BT is pro-wetsuit and the peer pressure is getting to me, though. More wimpiness!

I can't afford one right now anyway, so I'll just stick with what I know. Unless the water's gonna be colder than what I experienced at the Goldcoast Tri, then maybe I'll consider it, but otherwise, no need.

I'm pro wetsuit, I hate cold water, always have always will. I swam 2 races this year with a friends QR Quickjohn in 67F (too cold for me) and 74F water, after doing 1 race in 66F water in early April 04. Awesome feeling. I can't imagine what a full high dollar suit would offer for cheating, I mean speed on a long course

Hmmmmm...good argument there. I am definitely open to the wetsuit idea, I have no problem saying I hate cold water. Anything to keep me warmer than DEAD would be a good thing.

Don't get me wrong Renee...I know FL girls are tough. I've mentioned before that my best friend Terri has been running 5K's and training for a Du all the while going thru radiation and chemo for breast cancer...that's tougher than I could ever be given those circumstances. Hats off to tough Florida girls!

I still have to agree with Don's wetsuit argument though. 60-something degree water is just not fun!!!

Yes, sub 70s water is a good reason to wear a wetsuit. However, we don't get sub 70s water in Florida much. If you plan on doing tri's further north, then a wetsuit is a must have. If you plan on doing IM's, ditto.

I do love crisp water. Feels great after the first 2 minutes of swimming, once your heart has stopped racing. However, I wouldn't want my heart working harder just to warm me up when I just want it to work hard enough to get me through the swim.

I want to do a Polar Bear swim this winter. Hopefully I get somewhere where it snows and a time when there is an organized dip.

Well..No Sh%$!! What kind of Mickey Mouse BS team have I ended up being a part of anyway?
Watergirl whining like a girl about "I don't wanna wear a Gamecock jersey". Get naked who cares?? Wear what you want just stop whining!!
Goddess trying to claim dual citizenship between SC and Ga. Make up your mind there Hemingway. The last I knew you lived on the side of the Sav river that doesn't smell like skunk flattulance and that would be the SC side. OK there Sparky!!
And why in the hell is somebody from Athens fr323ggin Ga doing on our team anyway? Shouldn't you be hangin' with UGA the dog who is really the illigitimate son of Vince Dooley and Tammy Faye Baker.
And whats up with this albino white boy from SIMI Ca. who wants to give us the Paul Harvey rest of the story on the word Wahoo and the Univ of Va. HEY, we don't care. A wahoo is a %$#@^ fish as in swimming, as in swimming fast.
OK I'm going off to be depressed for a while. You people get this damn place squared away!!
Carry on.

Priceless.

Renee,

iswimslo has just joined the SW Swashbucklers.  I'll keep our team roster current in our team's thread, since this one is getting a bit long.

I'll join team crazy canucks

It's exam week the first two weeks... so i'd be pushing it if I said 20k each week.
Afterwards I want to be hitting something like 40-60k/week during christmas. Right now I'd say 120k, but that's subject to change.
