Elite ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Here is an article I found a few years ago. I really helped me prepare for my Ironman. For the people getting ready to do your first IM, the biggest benefit I found was it gave me something else to think about as the days got closer to the race. http://trinewbies.com/printpage.asp?ArticleID=100

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Good stuff...although I think the amount of IM related info running through my head at the moment is going to make me blow a blood vessel in my brain. If nothing else I want the race to get here so I can quiet the incessant nerves. Edited by KenyonTri 2007-03-12 10:20 AM |

Pro ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Great, concise source of information, thanks! I severely underestimated the importance of nutrition going into my last couple of H-IM's ... and am thankful that I did - I've learned my lesson and am actively working on nutrition now. Once thing I've found is that even though I could keep down 500 cal/hr, I am not sure that I could process that much -- and generally felt trashed after eating that much (liquid or solid calories). I dropped down to the mid to upper 300's per hour and felt better. Another change that brought a noticable difference was adding more water to my nutrition plan instead of sports drink. (It also helped reduce the amount of times I had to stop to urinate.) Nutrition is so nebulous - but the article gives a good baseline to start expiramenting from ... |

Member![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Amajor turning point in my nutrition was seperating my nutrition and hydration. I now mix a multi hour bottle of Hammer Perpetuem and then plain water. I am able to isolate my calorie intake and my water intake. I also like drinking water on a long ride, so I am not drinking a diluted mix of sports drink plus water and having to stop twice an hour to pee. I find I can be much more exact with the numbers as well and it makes it easy to sort out where things have gone wrong if I do get dehydrated or don't take in enough caories. Kevin |

Got Wahoo? ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Reading that really makes me want to do another IM..., except I was dissapointed that I didn't see 48 oz of diet Dr. Pepper as a pre race energy drink. |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Thank you for posting this. This is exactly the info I have been searching for. Although my first IM is a little more than 1 year away, my first HIM is 4 months away, and I didn't have a clue where to start. At least now I have somewhere to start. |

I was actually thinking doing a full bottle (200 cals) of Inifinit + 1 GU per hour for the bike. I need simple and trying to remember/ figure out how many grams of carbs/ calories/ etc. every 2.547 minutes isn't my style!! |

I have room for four water bottles on my bike so I'm thinking 3 water and 1 concentrated Infinit... and then switch them out at SN.. what do you think? |

I wouldn't carry that much water, I'd switch it around, carry more infinit than water. You can replace the water every 10 miles, all you need is one bottle. You can carry either 1 or 2 concentrated infinits, with 3 hours each. Carry one and pick one up in SN, or carry two (tossing the first one when it's done) and have a spare just in case in SN. I put the infinit in my downtube cages and water in the rear cage, in case I lost that bottle. Can replace water, not infinit. |
