I cant believe I am even doing this (TRI). two years ago I stood 5'10", 449#'s, and in very bad health. My doctor said if I want to live, I had to change my life. after consultation with the doc and dietician I joined weight watchers and began losing the pounds. in eight months lost 100#.
last Oct. I did the MS tour 150. while training for the tour I met some triathletes in our area and they took me under their wing and helped me train for the tour. Dr Dan kept pushing me to try a TRI. the more I thought about it I said why not!! So here I am training for a sprint tri in May and I must say I am really getting into the challenge.
I found a swim coach and am learning how to swim.
PS i have now lost over 200#. run 11 min miles. 18 to 22 mph on the bike, and growing my swim distance, not concentrating on the time yet.

That is truly an amazing turnaround! What an inspiration to show what you can do when you st your sights on something. Have you set your sights on a specific tri yet? Possibly this year?

well done. awesome stuff. I decided to do a tri this year - just startign with a sprint or 2 but after that who knows - I'll focus on that later. I think you are doign the same thing in so much as just starting from basics and building up the distances. The trianing programs on the front are great and will help you a lot if you dont' have any. Very friendly and helpful here people who will help you all the way.

My race plans are for may 2 at Mandeville, LA in the Crawfishman tri. It is a sprint Tri. .6 mile swim, 21 mile bike and a 4 mile run. I guess it could be considered extravagant for a first tri but here goes.

That's actually a little long for a sprint.  Pretty ambitious.  Best of luck.

UPDATE: I did a duathlon this past weekend and it was great, first and formost I finished. 1:28.24 not great but good, after breaking down my times I was in awe, I avg a 12 min mile and 17.8 mph on the bike, and discovered ways to improve. distance was 2/10/2, R/B/R. Not bad for an old fat man!! Ha Ha Ha.

Welcome to the team!!! Yours is a great story & very inspiring to me. I was also morbidly obese. I weighed 360 #'s at 5'8" a little over a year ago. I had gastric bypass surgery last February & have lost over 190lbs. I couldn't even get on a bike, let alone ride one so I know where you are coming from.

Great job!!!!!!

Keep in touch.
