I was thinking about getting some toe warmers to prevent my toes from becoming popsicles on the early morning rides. I swear my foot was frozen on my last morning ride. Just wondering how well they work and what people's thoughts are on the topic.

My Sidis are well-ventilated, so I think the toe warmers work more to block that ventilation than to actually provide warmth. But, yeah, they work for me.

I used to use toe covers and they were better than nothing, but I found that my feet still wound up very cold and they didn't stay on my shoes very well.  I've switched to these booties and I have found them to be much more effective for me personally.  Also, some high quality socks (and thicker than what you'd wear in warm weather) make a lot of difference.  I personally like Smartwool socks for winter cycling.  Their socks aren't cheap, but they are good.

I just ductape all the vents on the front of my shoes and wear a thicker pair of smart wool socks. Haven't had cold feet in years.

Another vote for booties over toe warmers......well worth the investment. I found some on Ebay for under $20.

ok, stupid ?.... by toe warmers, do you mean the chemical things you put in your shoes or do you mean toe COVERS that go over the ends of shoes....

I am having a ROUGH time with cold feet.... got some Defeet wool socks and toe covers.. the toe covers are too small and I'll have to take them back. So I rode New Year's Day with the wool socks and the grocery store bags I read about ...... and STILL FROZE.

I was going to get the toe warmers but I heard from some people not to use them in cycling shoes as the wind will hit them and make them VERY HOT. Plus, it mentions this on the back of the package.

Please set me straight so my feet won't freeze.

Options 1) get larger toe covers and use larger toe covers with woolies
2) get the booties instead and probably solve the whole problem
3) get the toe warmers --- depending on responses
4) woolies/duct tape

I use booties and they are great. Of course, I live in COLORADO where it can get a little cool.

Skip the toe warmers and get booties. I love Pearl Izumis AmFib booties. I wear them from 20-55 degrees and keep my feet happy and warm. Cold feet or cold hands suck. I always wear smart wool socks too.

I had other booties Performance Bike generic brands that did not work as well.

I rode 3 hours Sunday with a women with toe warmers she wished she had booties like mine. I guess it depends the temps when you ride.

Toe warmers are fine for me down to about 55 degrees or so.  But I live in So Cal, on the rare occasions it gets less than that, I wear 2 pairs of socks

Toe warmers work.

A cheap work around for when it's only every so often is a set of plastic sandwich bags...put them around your socks inside your shoes.  Mmmm....toasty.  But not breathable...so I wouldn't do it for TOO long a ride....

Yeah, I actually use just my booties, and I am fine down to 20 degrees, even with my ventilated tri shoe.

I am a total wimp when it comes to the cold. I use the little chemical hand/toe warmers in both my gloves and shoes. It is the only way I can ride in the winter time.

I went with the full booties since I prefer to wear really short socks, and my base layer bottoms don't reach down into the socks. The booties cover up the gap, and they are warm.
