I love pull-ups and any body weight workouts.

Right now I can do 20 pull ups non stop wide grip palm facing forward -- palm facing backwards, even more reps.

Currently I only do L-pullups ... much more challenging and it also work on abs and quads also. I now can do 12 to 15 reps non-stop.

I hope to do more in the future.

Cheers

How many men out there can perform pullups?

6' 1" / 150 pounds / arms with muscular strength of earthworms

I can usually do 1 or 2 pullups before my arms give out to my body weight.  Then again, I've never really focused on pullups.

Well, after 4 weeks of the pushup-challenge-modified-into-a-pullup-challenge, I can do 39 without stopping, kipping after 20 or so.  I have two more weeks to get to my goal...60.

We'll see what happens.  I have Week 5, Day 2 to do today.

2 sets of 20, 2 sets of 18, 2 sets of 15, a set of 14 and then a max reps set.

I'm thinking...OUCH.

Thanks for the good luck.  I think I seriously overinflated my percieved abilities when I decided to undertake this "get to 60 pullups" task.  I did the workout, but MY HANDS HURT.  And I have "claws" on my palms...and on all my fingers, closest to the palm.  One more week.  I can't wait to be done.  Whether I get to 60 on my final test or not, I'm done with this.

I sometimes overinflate my abilities at least to myself.  It can hurt a lot.

I can do about 12 right now, no kipping (palms in or out).  My problem is my forearms.  They are weak and get rubbery around 10.  Apparently, this isn't uncommon.

Oh - I'm 26, 6'0 and about 175.

One of the best exercises.  I'm 6'2" 180lbs. with long arms so pull-ups were tough to do. Two years ago I couldn't do 3 without assist.  Now I can do 17 straight or 3 sets of 8 body weight.

The key to getting the most out of it is to focus on range of motion.  I lower my body to the point where my body is hanging freely and fully extended, then I contract my back muscles and heave my chin over the bar.

I always have pull-ups or chin-up in my workout.  I rotate between palms towards, palm away, palms neutral, wide, medium and close grip.

Better Question:

 Who can do Muscle-Ups? :D

If you don't know what they are, google it or check it out on crossfit.

Easier with rings, harder on the bars, but good fun either way.

I have done exactly one.  By this I mean I've COMPLETED one...but I've had A PLETHORA of failed attempts!  I've tried and tried and I never seem to get it the right way.  The stars must have been in line just right for about 30 seconds the day I actually did it.

Actually, it's funny you mentioned this today because my goal for 2009 is to be able to do 20 muscle-ups in a single set before 2009.12.31. It probably will take me the whole year to get there too.

Yesterday I went out to every fitness store I could find, to try to get me a pair of rings.  Nothing.  I even went to gym-supply stores.  Sheesh!!  Guess it's time to go online to find 'em.

Can do 6 Dead Hang Pull Ups with 90lbs (two 45lb plates) strapped to me. Weight is 172lbs.

I'll admit it, I usually save this one until there are some ladies standing nearby...

Muscle ups are the bomb, but my globogym has no rings, and I find bar MU's a bit tricky (read: dangerous

I can do 20 pull-ups with hands facing me and about 10 to 12 with wide grip, hands facing away. I'm building up though

Given that my day job is being a US Marine, and that our PT test consists of deadhang pullups, crunches, and a three mile run, and that the maximum score on pullups is 20, I can do 20 deadhangs no problem, can struggle to get about 30, and if I kip, I can go forever.  I mean, I went about 60 or so kipping, and got bored (not tired, just bored), and quit.

Oh, I'm 5'11 and 210 lbs, so I am pulling some weight.

I currently top out at 12 regular, palms forward pull-ups.  (30 yrs old)

However, I did the P90X Chest and Back routine a few days ago, and while these were not straight pull-ups and with many different variations, I did 47 pull-ups over the course of the 50 minute workout.  I hope that by continuing this type of 'muscle confusion' that I'll be hitting to 20+ numbers soon!

6'4" 240 and 37 yrs old.  I can do roughly 20-25 depending on the day if I was only doing a single set.  Currently on back say I do 2-4 sets of 12-15 and will sometime add underhand grip on bicep days.  I am a huge pull up and dip fan.
