Subject: SRAM/DURA-ACE COMPATIBILITY
I just ordered a SRAM-RED drivetrain (FD, RD, Chain, Cassette, and Shift Levers) but was hoping to stick with my Dura-Ace Crank. I'm assuming that it will be compatible but wasn't sure if anyone knew of any issues that I should be worried about. I would think that front derailleurs are a little more forgiving with compatibilty than rears but wasn't sure if I'll be setting myself up for failure by not switching to a SRAM crank (rubbing or early wear)
Any ideas?
Thanks,
Nic

I saw this question a couple of days ago on ST so did a search for you. Seems like as long as the derailer and shifter are the same, everything else should be good to go. But read this for more details.

Thanks...its interesting that the SRAM Red Cassette is getting such poor reviews.

As I understand it, the SRAM shifter doesn't have the trim option, so in reality it's LESS forgiving than the Shimano unit. Is that a problem? Don't know.

Not really a problem, the bike its on is for racing only so it will be tuned up before each event. The SRAM-Red componetry is much lighter than Ultegra/Dura-Ace (even the shifters are lighter) and from what I've gathered the "Red" stuff is even a little better than Dura-Ace (it better be, it's almost double the $$), except for the cranks, no one can touch Shimano DA there.
Thanks again
Nic

BTW...I looked up the SRAM TT Carbon Bar End Shifters and it states that it is a friction front shifter and an indexed rear shifter....does that not mean that you can trim the front derailleur?
Maybe you were thinking of another type of SRAM (like the down tube or brake combo?)
